About the course

A five-year dual degree taught in English that leads to two bachelor’s degrees, one in business administration and one in law (LL.B.), 480 ECTS in all. It starts in September. You can do all five years in Madrid, or do the first two years in Segovia and then move to Madrid for years three to five.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • Ireland is an EU education system, so under Spanish rules you do not sit the Spanish entrance exam (PAU). You must meet the minimum rules for getting into university in Ireland. As a guide, UCD asks for six subjects, with at least H5 in two and O6/H7 in the other four, including English and Irish. IE University does not publish specific Leaving Certificate grade requirements, so confirm with IE undergraduate admissions (undergrad.admissions@ie.edu).
  • Admission is through IE University’s own process, not on Leaving Cert points alone. It involves an online application, IE’s admissions test (held only in English), an online assessment with video and written parts, and a personal interview. An Admissions Committee then decides.
  • English: IE does not ask for an English certificate from applicants who studied in an English-speaking school system, or did at least the last two years of second level through English. Irish students taught through English should not need an English test, but confirm with admissions.

How to apply

  1. Check eligibilityMake sure your expected Leaving Certificate meets the minimum Irish university entry rules. Ask IE admissions which grades they expect and which campus you want to start on (Madrid or Segovia).
  2. Apply online earlySubmit IE University’s online application and pay the €150 admission fee. Admissions are rolling and places go first come, first served.
  3. Admissions test and interviewDo IE’s admissions test (in English), the online video and written assessment, and the interview. If you get an offer, pay the €3,000 place reservation fee to secure your place.
  4. Send legal documents by 15 OctoberAfter your Leaving Cert results come out, send your final certificate and the accreditation IE asks for (usually UNEDasiss for EU systems) to IE Admissions before 15 October of first year.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: IE University has no fixed deadline for its undergraduate programmes. Admissions are rolling and places go on a first-come, first-served basis. IE says programmes are usually full several months before the September start, so apply as early as you can. After you are admitted, your legal enrolment documents must reach IE University Admissions (Madrid or Segovia campus) before 15 October of first year..

Costs

  • IE University is a private university, so IE sets its own fees and they are far higher than at Spanish public universities. The tuition fee for this dual degree is €34,000 a year for students starting in 2026/27. For students who start from 2026/27, IE raises the fee by a fixed 2.9% each year for the rest of the programme. There is also a €150 admission fee, a €3,000 place reservation fee (taken off first-year tuition) and a once-off €1,200 IE Foundation contribution in first year. The 2027/28 fee has not been published yet, so check it with IE.
This is a five-year programme at a private university, and fees are about €34,000 a year and rise 2.9% each year. Plan for five years of fees and living costs in Spain. Admission depends on IE’s own test and interview, not on CAO-style points, and popular programmes can fill months before September.
