Entry requirements for Irish students

  • IE University does not publish specific Leaving Certificate grades. It reviews your school transcripts and predicted grades as part of its overall assessment. Irish applicants do not sit the Spanish PAU, but IE says EU students need credentials from UNED (UNEDasiss accreditation) to enrol. As a guide, UCD’s matriculation minimum is six subjects, with at least H5 in two and O6/H7 in the other four, including English and Irish. Confirm with IE admissions.
  • Admissions test: IE’s own online test (verbal, numerical and logical reasoning, in English), or SAT/ACT scores instead. IE’s undergraduate admissions policy gives minimums of SAT 1300 or ACT 28. An online assessment and a personal interview follow.
  • English: IE’s admissions policy exempts applicants who completed secondary education in an English-speaking country, which covers Leaving Cert students. Otherwise the minimums are IELTS 7, TOEFL 100 or Duolingo 130.

How to apply

  1. Apply onlineComplete the IE application form, pay the €150 fee and upload your transcripts, predicted grades, recommendation letter, CV and personal expression piece. Aim for Round 1 (6 Nov 2026) or Round 2 (15 Jan 2027).
  2. Admissions testSit IE’s online admissions test or submit SAT (1300+) or ACT (28+) scores.
  3. Assessment and interviewComplete the online assessment and personal interview. The Admissions Committee decides by the round’s decision date.
  4. Legal documentsPay the €3,000 reservation fee, get your UNEDasiss accreditation and, after your Leaving Cert results, send official documents to IE Admissions by 15 October 2027.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: Admissions run in rounds for September 2027 entry. The Early Round closed on 18 Sep 2026. Round 1 closes 6 Nov 2026 (decision by 11 Dec 2026), Round 2 closes 15 Jan 2027 (decision by 19 Feb 2027) and Round 3 closes 5 Mar 2027 (decision by 23 Apr 2027). From May 2027 applications are considered on a rolling basis while places remain. Apply early. Key documents (transcripts and predicted grades) must be in by the round deadline. Official school documents must reach IE Admissions by 15 October of first year..

Costs

  • IE lists tuition of €26,500 for the first year (the 2026/27 rate, €441.67 per ECTS), the same for EU and non-EU students. Fees then rise by 2.9% each year of the degree. The 2027/28 first-year fee may be slightly higher, so confirm it with IE. There are also one-off costs: a €150 admission fee, a €3,000 place reservation fee (which counts towards first-year tuition but is non-refundable) and a €1,200 IE Foundation contribution in first year. IE offers merit-based scholarships and loans, but you must be admitted before applying for financial aid.
IE is a private university, so fees are far higher than at Spanish public universities and rise by 2.9% each year. Places are given out in rounds, so applying in autumn 2026 matters.
