About the course

A four-year, 240 ECTS international relations degree taught in English at UNIE’s Arapiles campus (14 Arapiles Street, Madrid). First year covers international relations theory, an introduction to law and modern world history. Third year focuses on international security and regional studies. Fourth year covers area studies (Africa, Latin America and the United States), an internship and a final degree project. Students can specialise in law and economics, foreign policy or international security (48 ECTS of electives). UNIE also has a Spanish-language page for this degree, so confirm that you are applying to the English-taught group.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • Under Spanish rules (Royal Decree 534/2024), Leaving Certificate holders do not sit the Spanish PAU but must meet Irish university matriculation requirements. As a guide, UCD asks for six subjects with at least H5 in two and O6/H7 in the other four, including English and Irish. UNIE’s admission regulations accept a UNEDasiss credential for qualifications from EU countries, so expect to need one. Confirm with UNIE admissions.
  • All applicants sit UNIE’s three-part admission test. It assesses skills and attitudes towards intellectual work, tests English and assesses merit (supplementary, professional and educational experience).
  • English-taught degrees require B2 English. You can send a document showing B2 level, or take UNIE’s own English test. Ask admissions whether Leaving Cert English counts for native speakers.
