About the course

A five-year, 300 EC programme taught in English. You combine an academic programme at Erasmus (Arts and Culture Studies, Erasmus University College or Philosophy) with an art, design or music programme at Willem de Kooning Academy or Codarts, and you finish with two degrees.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • General rule (EUR diploma overview 2026, for 2026/27 entry): Leaving Certificate (Established) with at least 6 general/academic subjects and at least 400 CAO points. Accepted subjects are all languages, Biology, Business, Chemistry, Classical Studies, Economics, Geography, History, Mathematics, Physics, Physics & Chemistry, Politics & Society and Religious Education. No Higher Level rule is published. You do not need an English test if you went to secondary school in Ireland for at least two and a half years.
  • Arts and Culture Studies does not list any required school subjects or maths. You must also win a place on the Willem de Kooning Academy or Codarts programme through its own selection (usually a portfolio or audition), and both institutions have to accept you.

How to apply

  2. Apply to the arts schoolFollow the Willem de Kooning Academy or Codarts procedure in its own portal, usually with a portfolio or audition. Check its deadline.
  3. Apply to ErasmusFrom 1 October 2026, register in Studielink. Then upload a motivation letter (using the template) and your school documents in the EUR portal by 1 May 2027 (Arts and Culture Studies). You should get a decision 6 to 8 weeks after your file is complete.

Arts and Culture Studies also charges applicants with a non-Dutch diploma a €100 application fee, which is not refunded.
  • EU students may be eligible for a Dutch tuition-fee loan (DUO).
Selective course: you must win a place separately at Erasmus and at Willem de Kooning Academy or Codarts, and each has its own requirements and deadlines.
