About the course

A four-year, 240 ECTS English-taught engineering degree, studied full time on campus in Kokkola. It is one of two IT specialisations that replace Centria’s general Information Technology intake from 2027. It starts with programming, databases, networks, electronics, web technologies, mathematics and software engineering, then specialises in smart devices, covering IoT, embedded systems, data analytics and applied AI. The other IT specialisation, Sustainable Software Engineering, is a blended programme in Pietarsaari.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • Finland accepts a completed Leaving Certificate that gives entry to higher education in Ireland. No Finnish body sets minimum Leaving Cert grades, subjects or Higher/Ordinary levels, and CAO points are not converted. In the Joint Application 2027, all places on this programme are filled through the online International UAS Exam, so your Leaving Cert grades do not rank you.
  • English: you must upload a document proving your English, either an internationally recognised language test or previous studies, by 28 January 2027 (the accepted documents are listed on uasinfo.fi). Ask your school for a letter confirming that you were taught and assessed in English, because the Leaving Cert certificate does not state this, and check with Centria that it will be accepted. Gaelscoil students should expect to need IELTS or TOEFL.

How to apply

  1. Check the programmeRead Centria’s Smart Devices and Solutions page and the list of accepted English documents on uasinfo.fi. Decide whether you want this programme (daytime, Kokkola) or Sustainable Software Engineering (blended, Pietarsaari).
  2. Apply on Studyinfo.fiSubmit your application in the Joint Application between 7 and 21 January 2027.
  3. Send documents and sit the examUpload proof of English and ID by 28 January 2027 at 15:00 Finnish time. Complete pre-identification between 10 and 12 March, then sit the International UAS Exam online on 23 March 2027.
  4. Accept and send final resultsResults come out by 14 April 2027. If you are offered a conditional place, accept it and send your final Leaving Cert results by the deadline Centria sets.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: Centria’s Joint Application 2027 runs from 7 to 21 January 2027 on Studyinfo.fi, for studies starting in autumn 2027. In this round, all places (100%) on this programme are filled through the International UAS Exam. You must upload proof of English and an ID document to your Studyinfo application by 28 January 2027 at 15:00 Finnish time. Pre-identification runs from 10 March 2027 at 08:00 to 12 March 2027 at 15:00, the online exam is on 23 March 2027 from 12:00 noon Finnish time, and results come out by 14 April 2027. Centria also lists a rolling admission period from 30 October 2026 to 31 May 2027. It is not confirmed which selection methods that route uses for 2027 or whether the Leaving Cert qualifies for it..

Costs

  • EU/EEA citizens pay no tuition fees at Centria; the non-EU/EEA fee is €9,500 a year, based on Centria’s Information Technology page. Any application or exam fees could not be confirmed on Centria’s pages.
Your Leaving Cert grades do not rank you: every Joint Application place on this programme is filled by the International UAS Exam. Check the certificate deadline too, as some Finnish UAS want final results before Irish results are issued.
