About the course

A four-year (240 ECTS) civil and structural engineering degree covering building technology, materials, concrete and steel structures, structural design and apartment buildings, with BIM and CAD skills. It is taught full-time in Hämeenlinna and includes a five-month work placement and a thesis.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • HAMK publishes nothing specific on the Irish Leaving Certificate. Under Finnish rules a completed Leaving Certificate that gives you entry to higher education in Ireland should make you eligible, but Finland sets no minimum grades, Higher Level subjects or H1-H8 points and does not convert CAO points. Confirm with admissions@hamk.fi.
  • How you are ranked: in the January joint application, HAMK’s bachelor’s applicants are ranked by the online International UAS Exam (23 March 2027). In the direct application, HAMK selects on upper secondary school performance or SAT scores; HAMK does not say whether Leaving Cert grades are accepted for this. No specific maths level is published, but strong maths helps in a structural engineering degree.
  • English: all applicants, including native speakers, must prove their English (joint application deadline 28 January 2027). Upper secondary education completed in English in the EU is accepted, but get a school letter confirming it, as the Leaving Cert certificate does not show this. Otherwise use IELTS Academic 6.0, PTE Academic 55, Cambridge 169 or another listed test.
