Entry requirements for Irish students

  • Finland accepts a completed Leaving Certificate as a school-leaving qualification if it would give you entry to higher education in Ireland; no Finnish body sets minimum Leaving Cert grades or levels and CAO points are not converted. HAMK does not publish how Leaving Cert results are scored, so confirm with admissions@hamk.fi before relying on your grades.
  • Direct application (Oct 2026 to May 2027): HAMK says it selects most students on upper secondary school performance or SAT scores. Joint application (January 2027): selection is by the online International UAS Exam on 23 March 2027.
  • English: you must prove your English. The Finnish UAS rules accept an upper secondary qualification completed in English in the EU/EEA, or tests such as IELTS Academic 6.0. Get a school letter confirming you were taught and assessed in English, as the Leaving Cert certificate does not say so; Gaelscoil students should plan on IELTS or TOEFL.

How to apply

  1. Choose your roundDecide between HAMK’s direct application (opens 1 October 2026, closes 14 May 2027, places filled as they go) and the January joint application (7 to 21 January 2027).
  2. Ask HAMK how your Leaving Cert is scoredEmail admissions@hamk.fi to confirm how predicted or final Leaving Cert results or SAT scores are used in direct application, and whether a SAT score would help.
  3. Apply on Studyinfo.fiSubmit your application with your school results and proof of English (school letter or IELTS/TOEFL). In the joint round, documents are due by 28 January 2027 and you sit the International UAS Exam on 23 March 2027.
  4. Accept and send final resultsDirect application results come by 18 June 2027 and joint application results by 31 May 2027. Accept your place by 13 July 2027 and send your final Leaving Cert certificate when HAMK asks.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: Two rounds for autumn 2027 entry. HAMK direct application: 1 October 2026 to 14 May 2027 (15:00 Finnish time), 25 places; HAMK says it selects most students during the application period and a programme can stop admitting once it is full, so apply early. Results by 18 June 2027. Joint application: 7 to 21 January 2027 (15:00), 15 places; eligibility and English documents due 28 January 2027 (15:00); International UAS Exam on 23 March 2027; results by 31 May 2027. Accept your place by 13 July 2027..

Costs

  • No tuition fee for EU/EEA citizens. Non-EU/EEA students pay €9,700 per academic year. HAMK’s pages do not mention an application fee.
Most places (25 of 40) are in HAMK’s own direct application, which fills as it goes between October 2026 and May 2027, so apply early. HAMK does not say how it scores the Leaving Cert, so ask admissions before you rely on it.
