About the course

A four-year, 240-ECTS Bachelor of Engineering taught in English at HAMK’s Riihimäki campus, covering mechanical engineering and production technology. It includes 120 credits of core studies, 75 credits of specialisation, a 30-credit work placement and a 15-credit thesis.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • Finland accepts a school-leaving qualification that gives access to higher education in the country where it was awarded, so a completed Leaving Certificate that meets Irish college entry rules should make you eligible. HAMK publishes no Leaving Cert grade, subject or Higher/Ordinary level requirements, and your CAO points are not converted. Confirm with HAMK admissions (admissions@hamk.fi).
  • Joint application: places are ranked on the online International UAS Exam (23 March 2027), not on school results. Direct application: HAMK selects on upper secondary school performance or SAT scores. It does not say how Leaving Cert grades are compared, so an SAT score may help.
  • English: you must prove your English. The UAS accept upper secondary education completed in English in the EU/EEA, or IELTS Academic 6.0, Cambridge 169 or PTE Academic 55. Ask your school for a letter confirming you were taught and assessed in English, because the Leaving Cert certificate does not say this. Gaelscoil students should plan for IELTS or a similar test.

Costs

  • No tuition fee for EU/EEA citizens. Non-EU/EEA students pay EUR 9,700 per academic year. HAMK’s pages do not mention an application fee for EU applicants; the International UAS Exam is taken online from your own computer.
Irish students have two ways in: the International UAS Exam in the January joint application, or the direct application ranked on school results or SAT scores. Ask HAMK early how Leaving Cert grades are treated and when your final results are due, because Leaving Cert results come out after most Finnish offers.
