About the course

A four-year (240 ECTS) forestry degree covering forest habitats, forest measurement, forest management, wood procurement and forest asset management. Teaching is full-time on campus, with a lot of practical work in a 1,800-hectare demonstration forest beside the campus and two 15-credit work placements.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • HAMK publishes nothing specific on the Irish Leaving Certificate. Under Finnish rules a completed Leaving Certificate that gives you entry to higher education in Ireland should make you eligible, but Finland sets no minimum grades, Higher Level subjects or H1-H8 points and does not convert CAO points. Confirm with admissions@hamk.fi.
  • How you are ranked: in the January joint application, bachelor’s applicants are ranked by the online International UAS Exam (23 March 2027), so your Leaving Cert results are not used for ranking. In the direct application, HAMK selects on upper secondary school performance or SAT scores; HAMK does not say whether Leaving Cert grades are accepted for this, so ask admissions before relying on it.
  • English: all applicants, including native speakers, must prove their English by 28 January 2027 (joint application). Upper secondary education completed in English in the EU is accepted, but the Leaving Cert certificate does not show the language of instruction, so get a school letter confirming it. Otherwise use IELTS Academic 6.0, PTE Academic 55, Cambridge 169 or another listed test. Gaelscoil students should plan on taking a test.

How to apply

  1. Choose your routeDecide between the joint application (7-21 January 2027, ranked by the International UAS Exam) and HAMK’s direct application (1 October 2026 to 14 May 2027, ranked by school performance or SAT). Email admissions@hamk.fi to ask how Leaving Cert holders are ranked in the direct route.
  2. Apply on Studyinfo.fiSubmit your application on Studyinfo.fi before the deadline. For the joint application this is 21 January 2027 at 15:00 Finnish time (14:00 Irish time).
  3. Send English proofUpload proof of English by 28 January 2027: a school letter confirming you were taught and assessed entirely in English, or an accepted test score such as IELTS Academic 6.0.
  4. Sit the exam and acceptSit the online International UAS Exam on 23 March 2027 (joint route). Results come out by 31 May 2027 (joint) or 18 June 2027 (direct). Accept your place by 13 July 2027 and apply for campus housing at Evo.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: Two routes for autumn 2027 entry, each with 20 places. Joint application: 7 January 2027 (08:00) to 21 January 2027 (15:00 Finnish time); documents including English proof by 28 January 2027 (15:00); International UAS Exam on 23 March 2027; results by 31 May 2027. Direct application: 1 October 2026 to 14 May 2027 (15:00 Finnish time); results by 18 June 2027. Accept your place by 13 July 2027 in either route..

Costs

  • No tuition fee for EU/EEA citizens (non-EU students pay 9,700 euro a year). HAMK’s pages do not mention an application fee for EU applicants.
The Evo campus is 45 km from Hämeenlinna and has no public transport link to the city, so HAMK recommends a driving licence; campus dormitories are available. Leaving Cert holders in the joint application are ranked by the International UAS Exam, not by points.
