About the course

A three-year (180 ECTS) interdisciplinary science degree taught in English. All students start with a first semester of university-level maths and basic programming, then choose a track in Mathematics and Statistics, Physics, Chemistry, or Computer and Data Science, with the option to combine tracks through electives.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • Finland accepts a completed Leaving Certificate that gives eligibility for higher education in Ireland; no Finnish body sets minimum grades, subjects or Higher/Ordinary levels and your CAO points are not used. Leaving Cert holders apply in Admission Group 1 and are not ranked on their Leaving Cert results. Confirm any subject questions with University of Helsinki admissions.
  • Places in Group 1 are ranked on SAT or ACT scores: the SAT (Evidence-Based Reading and Writing, and Math) or the ACT (Reading, Writing and Math), taken no more than two years before the deadline, with scores sent directly by College Board (code 0483) or ACT (code 8225) by 26 January 2027. The university advises registering for the test before the application period opens.
  • English: Helsinki accepts upper-secondary education completed in English in Ireland (submit a copy of your certificate). Alternatives include IELTS Academic 6.5 (6.0 in each section) or an SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing score of at least 550.
