About the course

A 240-ECTS engineering degree taught in English at the Wärtsilä Campus in Joensuu. It covers intelligent production (automation, Lean, robotics, quality and data analysis), sales, product and service life-cycle management, and team and project leadership.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • Karelia publishes nothing specific on the Irish Leaving Certificate. Under Finnish rules, a foreign school qualification makes you eligible if it gives access to higher education in the country where it was awarded, so a completed Leaving Cert that meets Irish entry rules should count. Grades and CAO points are not used to rank applicants. Confirm with Karelia admissions.
  • Certificate-based places are only for the Finnish matriculation exam and Finnish vocational degrees. Leaving Cert students would compete for the 14 International UAS Exam places or the 5 SAT places. SAT applicants need at least 400 in each section and do not need a separate English certificate.
  • English: International UAS Exam applicants must prove their English. Finnish UAS rules usually accept EU/EEA school-leaving education only if it was taught and assessed entirely in English and your documents show this. Get a school letter confirming it, and check the accepted proofs in the spring 2027 selection criteria on Studyinfo.fi. Gaelscoil students should plan for IELTS or TOEFL.

How to apply

Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: Apply in the Finnish joint application on Studyinfo.fi between 7 and 21 January 2027 for studies starting in autumn 2027. Karelia’s programme page and apply page both list Industrial Management in this round. Karelia has not yet published the International UAS Exam date or the deadline for proof of English for this round. Check the programme’s spring 2027 selection criteria on Studyinfo.fi. The January 2027 intake has closed. Its separate application ran from 6 May to 31 August 2026 and its joint application from 31 August to 10 September 2026. There is also a Fast Track application from 5 to 23 October 2026 (40 places). Check its eligibility on the programme page, because it has previously been only for applicants who already hold a degree..

Costs

  • No tuition fee for EU/EEA and Swiss citizens. Non-EU students pay 9,000 euro a year (the rate Karelia has charged since 1 January 2023; it has not yet published a separate 2027 figure). Karelia’s pages do not mention an application fee.
The spring 2027 joint application (7-21 January 2027) is confirmed for this programme and has 29 places, 14 of them for the International UAS Exam. Leaving Cert points will not rank you.
