About the course

A 240-ECTS engineering degree taught in English. The first year covers core ICT, then you specialise in intelligent automation or software engineering, with advanced work in machine learning, AI, software robotics, data analytics and the Internet of Things.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • Karelia publishes nothing specific on the Irish Leaving Certificate. Under Finnish rules, a foreign school qualification makes you eligible if it gives access to higher education in the country where it was awarded, so a completed Leaving Cert that meets Irish entry rules should count. Leaving Cert grades and CAO points are not used to rank applicants. Confirm with Karelia admissions.
  • Selection is only through the online International UAS Exam (23 March 2027). The exam has reasoning and English sections, plus field-specific sections that can include maths or advanced maths. Leaving Cert maths is not formally required, but you need to be strong at it.
  • English: you must prove your English, even as a native speaker. A school-leaving qualification from the EU counts only if it was taught and assessed entirely in English and your documents show this. Get a school letter confirming it, because the Leaving Cert certificate does not state it. Gaelscoil students should plan for IELTS or TOEFL.

Documents for the International UAS Exam (proof of English, ID copy) must be attached by 28 January 2027 at 15:00 Finnish time. The online exam is on 23 March 2027 from 12:00 Finnish time. Costs

  • No tuition fee for EU/EEA and Swiss citizens. Non-EU students pay 10,000 euro a year. Karelia’s pages do not mention an application fee for EU applicants.
Everything depends on one online exam on 23 March 2027. Leaving Cert results play no part in ranking, so prepare for the exam’s reasoning and maths sections.
