About the course

A 240 ECTS engineering degree on climate change, resource and material efficiency, the circular economy and sustainable product life cycles, with topics such as environmental sampling and CAD modelling. Teaching mixes lectures, laboratory work, teamwork and company projects, and includes 30 ECTS of practical training and a 15 ECTS thesis.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • LAB does not mention the Irish Leaving Certificate by name. Finland accepts a school-leaving qualification that gives university entry in the country where it was awarded, so a completed Leaving Cert that meets Irish entry rules should make you eligible, and CAO points are not used. Confirm with LAB admissions (admissions@lab.fi) how your Leaving Cert grades will be assessed.
  • In LAB’s rolling admission criteria for the January 2027 intake, applicants with upper secondary schooling from outside Finland needed a minimum grade average of 75% for engineering. Applicants with a secondary diploma could instead qualify with SAT scores of at least 600 in Evidence-Based Reading and Writing and 550 in Maths. The autumn 2027 criteria have not been published yet.
  • English: LAB accepts upper secondary education completed in English in Ireland (among other countries) as proof of English. Otherwise you need a test such as IELTS Academic 6.5 or TOEFL iBT 90. Ask your school for a letter confirming you were taught and assessed in English, because the Leaving Cert certificate does not say so.

How to apply

  1. Check the autumn 2027 criteriaLAB will publish the selection criteria for the autumn 2027 intake before rolling admission opens on 2 November 2026. Read them on the Studyinfo page linked from the programme page.
  2. Prepare documentsGet your Leaving Cert documents (or your predicted grades and a school statement if you are still in Sixth Year), plus a school letter confirming you were taught and assessed in English.
  3. Apply on StudyinfoApply as early as possible between 2 November 2026 and 30 April 2027. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
  4. Confirm the certificate deadlineIf you get a conditional offer, ask LAB when it needs your final Leaving Cert certificate. Leaving Cert results come out in late August, the same month the course starts.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: Rolling admission 2 November 2026 to 30 April 2027 for studies starting August 2027, applied for through Studyinfo. LAB says the selection criteria for the autumn 2027 intake will be published later, so apply early and check whether places can fill before the closing date..

Costs

  • No tuition fees for EU/EEA students. Students from outside the EU/EEA pay EUR 11,000 per academic year. LAB says the application fee applies only to applicants who are not EU, EEA or Swiss citizens.
LAB fills this course through rolling admission, not the January joint application or the International UAS Exam, so applying early matters. Check whether LAB needs your final Leaving Cert results before they are issued in late August 2027.
