About the course

An English-taught energy technology degree on LUT’s Lahti campus, run as a double degree with Hebei University of Technology (HEBUT) in China. Graduates receive degrees from both universities, and the whole degree is studied in Finland. It is 3 + 2 years: a 180 ECTS Bachelor of Science (Technology) followed by a 120 ECTS Master of Science (Technology). Topics include engineering design, thermodynamics, nuclear power engineering, power plant engineering and energy economics.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • For school qualifications from outside Finland, LUT asks for an upper secondary qualification plus either an English language test or a SAT/OMPT result. A completed Leaving Certificate that meets Irish university entry rules should count as an upper secondary qualification. LUT sets no minimum Leaving Cert grades, subjects or Higher/Ordinary levels, and CAO points are not converted. Confirm with LUT admissions.
  • Rolling admission is non-competitive: if you meet all the requirements you are admitted while places remain. LUT’s technology rolling criteria describe SAT, OMPT and ‘mathematics curriculum’ routes. Check the minimum scores and whether Leaving Cert maths is accepted.
  • English: LUT’s criteria set out when an English test is required and when it is not. Confirm with LUT whether Irish schooling or Leaving Cert English is accepted instead of IELTS or TOEFL.

How to apply

  1. Check the criteria (September 2026)Read LUT’s technology bachelor’s rolling admission criteria and this programme’s page, and decide whether to use the SAT, the OMPT or an English test. Book any test early.
  2. Apply online (from 1 Sept 2026)Apply through LUT’s online rolling admission application between 1 September 2026 and 30 April 2027. You can apply to only one LUT programme at a time, and this one closes once its places are filled, so apply early.
  3. Upload documentsUpload your school documents and test results as LUT instructs. Documents not in English need an official translation.
  4. Accept and send final resultsAccept your offer and send your final Leaving Certificate results once they are issued in August 2027. Confirm LUT’s deadline for final documents.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: LUT’s international rolling admission for bachelor’s studies runs from 1 September 2026 at 08:00 to 30 April 2027 at 23:59 (UTC+3), unless the programme fills earlier. Studies start in autumn 2027..

Costs

  • No tuition fees and no application fee for EU/EEA citizens. Non-EU/EEA students pay EUR 12,000 a year and a EUR 100 application fee, with EUR 3,000 scholarships available in years two and three.
This programme is taught in Lahti, not Lappeenranta. Admission is rolling and first come, first served: if you meet the requirements you are admitted while places last, so apply early in the 2026/27 cycle.
