About the course

An English-taught engineering degree in Lappeenranta. It is 180 ECTS over three years, leading to a Bachelor of Science (Technology), and is followed by a 120 ECTS master’s for a Master of Science (Technology) (3 + 2 years). It combines mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, energy technology and environmental technology, with a focus on sustainable hybrid solutions and IoT skills.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • For school qualifications from outside Finland, LUT asks for an upper secondary qualification plus either an English language test or a SAT/OMPT result. A completed Leaving Certificate that gives university entry in Ireland should count as an upper secondary qualification. LUT does not publish minimum Leaving Cert grades, Higher/Ordinary level requirements or a points conversion, so confirm with LUT admissions before you apply.
  • Rolling admission is not competitive: you are offered a place if you meet the criteria while places remain. The technology rolling criteria page describes routes through the SAT, the OMPT or a ‘mathematics curriculum’. Check the minimum scores and whether Leaving Cert maths is accepted.
  • English: LUT’s criteria set out when an English test is required and when it is not. Check with LUT whether Irish schooling or Leaving Cert English exempts you, or whether you need a test such as IELTS or TOEFL.

How to apply

  1. Check the admission criteriaRead LUT’s technology rolling admission criteria for the SAT, OMPT, maths curriculum and English test rules, and ask admissions how they treat the Leaving Certificate.
  2. Book any tests earlyIf you need the SAT, OMPT or an English test, book it for autumn 2026 or early 2027 so the result is ready before places run out.
  3. Apply onlineApply through LUT’s online rolling admission application between 1 September 2026 and 30 April 2027. You can apply to only one rolling admission programme at a time.
  4. Accept and send final resultsAccept your offer and send your final Leaving Certificate results when they are issued. Confirm LUT’s deadline for final documents.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: International rolling admission runs from 1 September 2026 at 08:00 to 30 April 2027 at 23:59 Finnish time (UTC+3), for studies starting in autumn 2027. It closes earlier if all places are filled..

Costs

  • No tuition fees for EU/EEA citizens, including Irish students. Non-EU/EEA students pay EUR 12,000 a year (with a EUR 2,000 early bird discount in the first year) and a EUR 100 application fee. You still pay your own living costs in Finland.
Places are given out in order until the programme is full, so apply early in the 1 September 2026 to 30 April 2027 window. Confirm the test requirements with LUT, because Leaving Cert results alone may not be enough.
