Entry requirements for Irish students

  • Finland accepts a completed Leaving Certificate that makes you eligible for higher education in Ireland. No Finnish body sets minimum Leaving Cert grades, subjects or Higher/Ordinary levels, and CAO points are not used. At universities of applied sciences, Leaving Cert holders are usually ranked by the online International UAS Exam rather than by school results. SAMK says its full 2027 admission criteria will be published later, so confirm the selection methods with SAMK admissions.
  • There is no published Leaving Cert subject requirement, but good Leaving Cert Maths helps with the exam and the course.
  • English: SAMK accepts an upper secondary qualification completed in English in an EU/EEA country. Get a letter from your school confirming you were taught and assessed in English. Gaelscoil students should expect to need a test such as IELTS (minimum 6.0) or TOEFL at the level SAMK sets.

How to apply

  1. Check SAMK’s 2027 rules (autumn 2026)Read SAMK’s admissions page and the programme page for the 2027 selection method (exam or interview), the number of places and the final-certificate deadline.
  2. Apply on Studyinfo.fi (7-21 January 2027)Submit the joint application on Studyinfo.fi and list Logistics at SAMK.
  3. Prove your English (by 28 January 2027)Upload a school letter confirming you were taught and assessed in English, or an accepted test result, plus your ID documents, by 15:00 Finnish time.
  4. Sit the exam or interview (March 2027)If the International UAS Exam applies, complete pre-identification from 10 to 12 March and sit the exam on 23 March 2027. If you get a conditional offer, send your final Leaving Cert by SAMK’s deadline. Studies start in August 2027.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: Apply in the joint application on Studyinfo.fi from 7 to 21 January 2027. Studies start in August 2027. If the International UAS Exam is used for your round, proof of English and ID documents are due by 28 January 2027 at 15:00 Finnish time, pre-identification runs from 10 to 12 March 2027, and the online exam is on 23 March 2027. Results are published by 14 April 2027. SAMK’s programme page lists interview-based selection for its partner round, so check with SAMK which selection method applies to joint-application applicants..

Costs

  • No tuition fee for EU/EEA citizens, including Irish students. Non-EU/EEA students pay €9,500 a year.
Your Leaving Cert points are not used to rank you. The intake is very small, so check with SAMK how joint-application applicants are selected.
