About the course

A 240 ECTS engineering degree taught in English, focused on design, project management and manufacturing, with practical training in 3D modelling, product development and materials engineering. It is full-time study built on maths and physics.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • Finland accepts a completed Leaving Certificate that makes you eligible for higher education in Ireland. No Finnish body sets minimum Leaving Cert grades, subjects or Higher/Ordinary levels, and CAO points are not used. At universities of applied sciences, Leaving Cert holders are usually ranked by the online International UAS Exam rather than by school results. SAMK says its full 2027 admission criteria will be published later, so confirm the selection methods with SAMK admissions.
  • The course is built on maths and physics, so strong Leaving Cert Maths (ideally Higher Level) and Physics help. There is no published minimum grade.
  • English: SAMK accepts an upper secondary qualification completed in English in an EU/EEA country. Get a letter from your school confirming you were taught and assessed in English. Gaelscoil students should expect to need a test such as IELTS (minimum 6.0) or TOEFL at the level SAMK sets.

How to apply

  1. Check SAMK’s 2027 rules (autumn 2026)Read SAMK’s admissions page for the final 2027 selection methods, which SAMK says will be published later, and the final-certificate deadline.
  2. Apply on Studyinfo.fi (7-21 January 2027)Submit the joint application on Studyinfo.fi and list Mechanical Engineering at SAMK.
  3. Prove your English (by 28 January 2027)Upload a school letter confirming you were taught and assessed in English, or an accepted test result, plus your ID documents, by 15:00 Finnish time.
  4. Sit the International UAS Exam (23 March 2027)Complete pre-identification between 10 and 12 March, then sit the online exam on 23 March. Results come by 14 April 2027. If you get a conditional offer, send your final Leaving Cert by SAMK’s deadline. Studies start in August 2027.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: Apply in the joint application on Studyinfo.fi from 7 to 21 January 2027. Studies start in August 2027. Proof of English and ID documents for the International UAS Exam must be uploaded by 28 January 2027 at 15:00 Finnish time. Pre-identification runs from 10 March 2027 (08:00) to 12 March 2027 (15:00), and the online exam is on 23 March 2027 from 12:00 noon Finnish time. Results are published by 14 April 2027. SAMK also runs its own separate application rounds (January, April and June 2027), depending on places..

Costs

  • No tuition fee for EU/EEA citizens, including Irish students. Non-EU/EEA students pay €10,500 a year.
There is no tuition fee for Irish students, but your Leaving Cert points are not used to rank you. Your place depends mainly on the online International UAS Exam on 23 March 2027.
