Entry requirements for Irish students

  • Finland accepts a completed Leaving Certificate that makes you eligible for higher education in Ireland. No Finnish body sets minimum Leaving Cert grades, subjects or Higher/Ordinary levels, and CAO points are not used. At universities of applied sciences, Leaving Cert holders are usually ranked by the online International UAS Exam rather than by school results. SAMK says its full 2027 admission criteria will be published later, so confirm the selection methods with SAMK admissions.
  • The course is built on maths and physics, so strong Leaving Cert Maths (ideally Higher Level) is useful preparation for the exam and the course. There is no published Leaving Cert maths requirement.
  • English: SAMK accepts an upper secondary qualification completed in English in an EU/EEA country. The Leaving Cert certificate does not state the language of teaching, so get a letter from your school confirming you were taught and assessed in English. Gaelscoil students should expect to need a test such as IELTS (minimum 6.0) or TOEFL at the level SAMK sets.
