About the course

A four-year, 240-ECTS Bachelor of Engineering taught in English and studied full-time at SEAMK in Seinäjoki. It covers food processing engineering with a sustainability focus. The programme was previously called Bachelor of Engineering, Agri-food Engineering. Studies start in autumn 2027.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • You need a qualification that gives eligibility for higher education in your own country, so a completed Leaving Certificate that meets Irish entry rules should make you eligible. No Finnish body sets minimum Leaving Cert grades (H1-H8, O1-O8), subjects or Higher/Ordinary levels, and CAO points are not converted. For SEAMK Direct Application, SEAMK asks for an overall average mark of at least 60% (or an SAT of 1000+, with 500+ in both reading/writing and maths). SEAMK does not say how this applies to the Leaving Cert, so confirm with admissions@seamk.fi.
  • Selection: in the January joint application you take an entrance exam. In SEAMK Direct Application you are assessed on your school results and a pass/fail online interview on Microsoft Teams, which looks at your motivation, aptitude for study and English. The exact criteria and dates are on Studyinfo.fi.
  • English: you must prove your English, and SEAMK accepts IELTS, TOEFL or other approved certificates ‘if needed’. Finnish UAS rules usually exempt applicants whose upper secondary schooling in an EU/EEA country was taught in English, but SEAMK’s own pages do not spell this out. Ask your school for a letter confirming English-medium teaching, because the Leaving Cert certificate does not state the language, and check the accepted proofs and scores on Studyinfo.fi. Gaelscoil students should expect to need a test.

How to apply

  1. Choose your routeDecide between the joint application (7-21 January 2027, several choices, entrance exam) and SEAMK Direct Application (23 Sep 2026 to 22 Apr 2027, one programme only, online interview, may close early).
  2. Apply on Studyinfo.fiUpload your Leaving Cert results or predicted grades and proof of English, following the attachment rules and deadlines on Studyinfo.fi.
  3. Sit the selectionTake the entrance exam (joint application) or the online Teams interview (Direct Application) on the dates you are given.
  4. Accept and enrolJoint application results come out by 31 May 2027. Accept by 13 July 2027 at 15:00 (or within 7 days of a Direct Application offer). Bring your original certificates when you start in autumn 2027.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: Two routes for autumn 2027 entry. The Finnish joint application runs 7-21 January 2027 and closes at 15:00 Finnish time on 21 January. Results come out by 31 May 2027 at the latest, and you must accept your place by 13 July 2027 at 15:00. SEAMK Direct Application is open from 23 September 2026 (08:00 Finnish time) to 22 April 2027. It is rolling: applications are processed in the order they arrive, and it can close early once places are filled. You can be admitted to only one programme through it, and you must accept an offer within 7 days. Check the deadline for proof of English and other documents on Studyinfo.fi..

Costs

  • Tuition-free for EU/EEA citizens, so Irish students pay nothing. EU/EEA applicants also pay no application fee. SEAMK charges non-EU/EEA students EUR 9,500 a year for bachelor’s programmes, with a 10% Early Bird discount on the first-year fee for students admitted in 2026 and 2027. You still pay living costs in Seinäjoki.
This is an engineering degree in food processing (formerly Agri-food Engineering) at a university of applied sciences. Your Leaving Cert points are not used for CAO-style ranking. In the joint application you get in through an entrance exam. Through Direct Application you need a good school average plus a pass in an online interview.
