Entry requirements for Irish students

  • Turku accepts any upper secondary qualification that gives entry to university bachelor’s studies in the country where it was awarded, so a completed Leaving Certificate that meets Irish entry rules should make you eligible. Turku does not convert your CAO points and sets no Leaving Cert grades, subjects or levels. Confirm with admissions@utu.fi.
  • Leaving Cert holders compete only in Admission Group I (SAT), because the school-results group (Group II) uses only the Finnish matriculation exam, IB, EB or German Abitur. You need the SAT with Evidence-Based Reading and Writing and Maths: at least 600 in Maths and 1150 in total, and the test cannot be more than 2 years old.
  • If you are admitted on the SAT you do not need separate proof of English. Otherwise, Turku accepts secondary education completed in English in Ireland, or IELTS 6.0 (5.5 in each part) or an equivalent test.

How to apply

Costs

  • No tuition for EU/EEA and Swiss citizens. Non-EU students pay EUR 10,000 a year for the Bachelor’s and EUR 12,000 a year for the Master’s. The university page mentions no application fee, but you pay the SAT test fee yourself.
For Leaving Cert students this is really a SAT-only route to 18 of the 30 places, with at least 600 in SAT Maths and 1150 overall. Your Leaving Cert results are not used for ranking, so the SAT has to be booked well before January.
