About the course

A 240-ECTS engineering degree taught in English. It covers sustainable energy production, power plant technology, renewable energy, intelligent energy distribution, project management and technical sales. It includes a 30-ECTS internship, lab work in the Technobothnia laboratory, and group and company projects. For your final-year options, you can choose Energy Technology Management or Project Management.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • Finland accepts a foreign school qualification if it gives eligibility for higher education in the country where it was awarded. A completed Leaving Certificate that meets Irish entry rules should therefore count. No Finnish body sets minimum Leaving Cert grades, subjects or Higher/Ordinary levels, and CAO points are not used. VAMK publishes nothing specific on the Leaving Cert, so confirm with VAMK admissions.
  • How you are selected depends on the route. On the Studyinfo joint application, VAMK says an entrance exam assesses your ability to study at a university of applied sciences. International applicants are normally ranked by the online International UAS Exam or an entrance exam, because certificate-based ranking mostly covers only the Finnish, IB, EB and Abitur qualifications. On VAMK’s rolling admission route, eligible applicants are invited to an interview scored from 0 to 5.
  • English: in the rolling admission interview, VAMK tests your English, and weak English can lead to disqualification. In the joint application, the UAS rules accept upper secondary schooling in the EU that was taught and assessed entirely in English, if the language is shown on your documents. Ask your school for a letter confirming this. Otherwise you need IELTS Academic 6.0, TOEFL iBT 60, PTE Academic 55 or a Cambridge score of 169.

How to apply

  1. Watch for the January 2028 intakeVAMK has not yet published application dates for the January 2028 intake. In 2026 the joint application ran from 31 August to 10 September. Check the programme page from summer 2027.
  2. Choose your routeApply either on Studyinfo.fi in the autumn joint application (EUR 100 fee, entrance exam) or through VAMK’s rolling admission (interview, with an application fee).
  3. Prepare documentsYou need a passport and your certified Leaving Certificate. For the joint application, you also need proof of English, such as a school letter confirming you were taught and assessed in English, or IELTS/TOEFL. Upload these by the deadline stated in the application form.
  4. Sit the exam or interviewDo the entrance exam (joint application) or book an interview through VAMK’s booking system (rolling admission). Bring valid ID to the interview. Your English is assessed.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: This programme starts in January, not September. Both routes into the January 2027 intake are now closed. The autumn joint application on Studyinfo ran from 31 August to 10 September 2026 (15:00 Finnish time), and VAMK says rolling admission for January 2027 has also closed. Leaving Cert students finishing in June 2027 would realistically aim for the January 2028 intake. VAMK says it will publish details for that intake later. Going by the 2026 pattern, expect the joint application to open in late August or early September 2027..

Costs

  • No tuition for EU/EEA citizens. VAMK says tuition fees are waived for students from EU/EEA countries. Non-EU students pay EUR 10,500 a year for bachelor’s degrees starting from 1 August 2026. VAMK charges a EUR 100 application fee for its joint application on Studyinfo. You must also pay an application fee on the rolling admission route, but VAMK does not publish the amount.
This course starts in January, and the January 2027 intake has already closed. A student sitting the Leaving Cert in June 2027 would apply in autumn 2027 for a January 2028 start, and VAMK has not yet published those dates.
