About the course

A 240 ECTS (4-year) full-time Bachelor of Engineering taught in English on VAMK’s Vaasa campus. It focuses on software engineering, embedded systems, the Internet of Things and cybersecurity, and includes a 30 ECTS (five-month) internship. Students need their own laptop.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • You must meet the general eligibility rules for higher education, so a completed Leaving Certificate that gives access to higher education in Ireland should make you eligible. No Finnish body sets minimum Leaving Cert grades, subjects or Higher/Ordinary levels, and CAO points are not converted. Eligible applicants are invited to an interview, scored 0 to 5. If you have not finished school yet, upload your latest transcript of results plus a letter from your school confirming your expected graduation date.
  • English: VAMK accepts an upper secondary qualification completed in English in the EU/EEA, or a test such as IELTS Academic (5.5+), TOEFL iBT (46+), PTE Academic (42+) or Cambridge English (162+). The Leaving Cert certificate does not state the language of teaching, so ask your school for a letter confirming you were taught and assessed in English. Gaelscoil students should expect to need a test. The interview also checks your English, and weak English leads to rejection.

How to apply

  1. Check the rulesRead VAMK’s ‘Rolling Admission for Bachelor’s Degrees 2’ page and this programme’s listing on Studyinfo.fi for eligibility, required documents and English proofs.
  2. Prepare documentsGather your passport, your school results (or latest transcript plus a school letter confirming your expected graduation date) and proof of English, such as a school letter or an IELTS/TOEFL score.
  3. Apply on StudyinfoApply between 1 October 2026 and 30 April 2027. Apply early, because the round can close once places are filled.
  4. Interview and acceptEligible applicants are interviewed (scored 0 to 5, including an English check). If offered a place, accept it and send your final Leaving Cert results as VAMK instructs. Studies start in autumn 2027.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: This programme is in VAMK’s ‘Rolling Admission for Bachelor’s Degrees 2’ round on Studyinfo.fi for the autumn 2027 intake, separate from the January joint application. The round runs from 1 October 2026 until 30 April 2027 (15:00 Finnish time), but VAMK may close it earlier once all places are filled. Upload all documents by the deadline stated in the application form..

Costs

  • No tuition fee for EU/EEA citizens, so Irish students pay nothing. VAMK charges tuition only to non-EU/EEA students (EUR 10,500 a year for bachelor’s degrees from August 2026). You pay your own living costs in Vaasa.
VAMK fills this course through its own rolling admission on Studyinfo, not the January joint application. Selection is by interview and the round can close early, so apply early. Check when your final Leaving Cert results must be in, since they come out only in late August.
