About the course

An English-taught degree that combines mechanical engineering, electronics and software to design smart machines and robots. It is offered in Eindhoven and Venlo and is a practical, career-focused degree at a university of applied sciences.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • The institution assesses the Irish Leaving Certificate individually and does not publish a fixed Irish requirement. Contact admissions to confirm.
  • Your school certificate must show satisfactory grades in Mathematics and Physics. Fontys does not publish an Irish grade or level, so plan to take Leaving Cert Physics.

How to apply

  1. Apply on StudielinkChoose Mechatronics in Eindhoven or Venlo on Studielink by 1 June 2027 for a September start (earlier is better).
  2. Upload documentsWhen Fontys asks, send your grade lists, Leaving Cert results or predicted grades, your diploma and English proof if needed.
  3. Subject checkFontys checks your Maths and Physics results individually.
  4. Decision and enrolmentOnce admitted, complete enrolment in Studielink and apply for Fontys housing by 15 June if needed.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: 1 June 2027 for EEA and international students starting in September (Fontys’s deadline for Dutch students is 1 May). The February start is in Eindhoven only and has a 15 November deadline for EEA and international students. If you want Fontys housing, apply by 15 June (September start); Fontys pages give 6 or 8 December for a February start..

Costs

  • Standard Dutch EU fee: €2,694 (2026/27). The 2027/28 fee is set by the Dutch government each year (expected to be close to €2,800).
  • EU students may be eligible for a Dutch tuition-fee loan (DUO).
