About the course

A three-year, English-taught science degree in which every student takes a double major combining Mathematics with Physics, Computer Science or Economics. It leads to a state-recognised French degree (grade de licence).

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • École Polytechnique publishes no specific Leaving Certificate grade rule. France treats the Leaving Cert as a valid EU school-leaving qualification, and the school reviews applications holistically, expecting a strong overall average. Confirm with admissions how your predicted and final results will be read.
  • You are expected to have taken advanced mathematics and at least one advanced science subject, so Higher Level Maths plus a Higher Level science (Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Applied Maths) is the realistic profile. One of your two referee letters must come from a maths teacher.
  • English at C1 is required (TOEFL iBT 90, IELTS 6.5 with 6 in each skill, or Cambridge 176). Native English speakers with passport proof, or students taught in English for the two years before entry, are exempt, which normally covers Irish school-leavers.

How to apply

  1. Choose one routeApply through Polytechnique’s own online portal or through Parcoursup, not both. You can apply only once per academic year.
  2. Prepare your fileTranscripts, personal statement, CV, ID, photo, contact details of two referees (one a maths teacher) and the €105 application fee.
  3. Apply in a roundRound 1 closes 20 Oct 2026, Round 2 closes 6 Jan 2027, Round 3 closes 8 Feb 2027. Applying early gives an earlier decision.
  4. InterviewIf shortlisted, sit a 50-minute online interview in English. Decisions come in January, March or April 2027 depending on the round.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: Three rounds for 2027 entry: Round 1, 17 Sep–20 Oct 2026 (11:59pm CEST), results January 2027; Round 2, 21 Oct 2026–6 Jan 2027 (11:59pm CET), results March 2027; Round 3, 7 Jan–8 Feb 2027 (2pm CET), results April 2027. There are no quotas per round or by nationality. Shortlisted candidates have an online interview in English of about 50 minutes (early December for Round 1, February–March for Round 2, March–April for Round 3)..

Costs

  • EU/EEA students pay €15,900 a year (non-EU: €19,600). The fee stays the same for the whole programme. There is also a non-refundable €105 application fee. The fees page does not state which academic year the rate applies to, so confirm it for 2027 entry. Financial aid exists but is limited and usually does not cover full tuition.
Teaching is entirely in English, but you must reach B2 French to graduate, so students below that level take French classes during the degree. Fees of €15,900 a year are far higher than a French public university.
