About the course

A four-year (240 ECTS), English-taught degree covering Greek archaeology, ancient Greek history, and Greek and Latin literature, including Ancient Greek and Latin language study. It is taught in Athens, close to the city’s archaeological sites and museums.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • Greece has no national points-equivalence scale for the Leaving Certificate. The programme asks for a school-leaving certificate with an indicative overall average of 70% or equivalent, but it publishes no Leaving Cert conversion, so ask admissions how H and O grades are assessed.
  • Applicants are assessed on their school results, a CV and a personal statement, and the Admissions Committee may hold a live online video interview. No specific subjects or maths level are listed.
  • English: TOEFL 88+ (Listening 17, Writing 17, Reading 18, Speaking 20), IELTS 6.5 (no component below 5.5) or Cambridge FCE (B2). Native speakers do not need a test. The application form treats test results as optional but recommended.

How to apply

  1. Apply online from 1 October 2026Submit the programme application form with your passport, CV, personal statement and your latest school results or a statement of enrolment (5th year or mock results if you are still in 6th year). English test results are optional but recommended.
  2. Assessment and possible interviewThe Admissions Committee reviews your application and may invite you to a live online video interview. An offer made before your Leaving Cert results are out may be conditional.
  3. Upload certified documentsUpload certified copies of your diploma and transcript in English, with an Apostille where it applies. For the Leaving Cert, this happens after results come out in August.
  4. Pay the first instalment and receive your offerPay the first EUR 3,000 instalment to the university. You then receive your admission offer and enrol for September. EU citizens do not need a visa.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: Applications for the 2027 intake open on 1 October 2026 on the programme’s online platform. The official pages checked do not give a closing date, so check the How to apply page or email info@baag.uoa.gr for the 2027 deadline, and apply early..

Costs

  • The programme charges EUR 6,000 per academic year to all students, EU students included, paid in two instalments (late June and late January). The application process asks you to pay the first EUR 3,000 instalment before your admission offer is issued. Living costs are extra, and you must arrange private health insurance before enrolling.
This degree is at a public university, but it is not free: every student, EU students included, pays EUR 6,000 a year. Applications for 2027 entry open on 1 October 2026, and no closing date has been published yet.
