About the course

A practical, career-focused degree covering molecular life sciences through project-based lab work and research skills. You spend Years 1-2 at HAN in Nijmegen and Years 3-4 at the University of Dundee, and graduate with a joint BSc (Honours) in Molecular Biosciences.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • The institution assesses the Irish Leaving Certificate individually and does not publish a fixed Irish requirement. Contact admissions to confirm.
  • Chemistry and Mathematics must be on your school-leaving certificate, and Biology is recommended. HAN expects you to know topics such as atomic structure, the periodic table, organic chemistry, biochemistry, and linear and quadratic equations. It does not set a Higher Level or grade requirement for the Leaving Certificate, so check with admissions.
  • Matching: the programme page says you must take part in matching, starting with an online questionnaire, to complete your application. If you went to school in Ireland and were taught in English, you do not need an English test.

How to apply

  1. Apply on StudielinkApply for ‘Life Sciences’ (Molecular Biosciences route) on Studielink by 1 May 2027 so that your start in September is guaranteed.
  2. Upload documentsFollow HAN’s email instructions to upload your Leaving Certificate results or predicted grades, including Chemistry and Maths, so admissions can assess them.
  3. Complete matchingFill in the online questionnaire and take part in the matching activities. You get positive, ‘action required’ or negative advice. The advice is not binding.
  4. Finish enrolmentOnce admissions accepts your Leaving Certificate, finish enrolment and arrange to pay both the HAN and Dundee fees before the course starts on 1 September 2027.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: Apply on Studielink and select ‘Life Sciences’, because Molecular Biosciences is a joint-degree specialisation of it. The programme page gives 15 August as the EU/EEA deadline. However, HAN’s 2026-27 enrolment regulations set 1 May as the start guarantee date for this joint programme for all students, EU included. If you apply after that date, HAN may not finish your enrolment before the course starts. Aim for 1 May 2027. These dates come from the 2026-27 cycle, so confirm the 2027 dates with HAN..

Costs

  • Higher than the standard Dutch fee. For 2026/27 (Year 1), EU students pay the Dutch statutory fee of €2,694 to HAN plus £8,660 to the University of Dundee. HAN charges its fee in Years 1 and 2 only. Dundee charges its fees for Years 3 and 4, but starts collecting them from Year 1, so you prefinance them and pay the same amount each year. HAN expects fees to rise by 3-5% a year. HAN estimates living costs in Arnhem or Nijmegen at about €1,200 a month.
  • EU students may be eligible for a Dutch tuition-fee loan (DUO).
Open-entry course: if you meet the requirements, you get a place. Apply by 1 May, because this joint programme uses 1 May as its start guarantee date for all students.
