About the course

A six-year (12-semester) integrated undergraduate and graduate programme in dental medicine, taught in English at the University of Zagreb School of Dental Medicine. Students on the English programme cannot transfer to the Croatian programme under any circumstances.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • The university assesses the Irish Leaving Certificate individually and does not publish a fixed Irish requirement. Contact admissions to confirm. You must also get a Certificate of recognition of your foreign school qualification (through studij.hr) and official Croatian translations of your diplomas.
  • Written entrance exam: 3 hours, 120 multiple-choice questions (40 each in Physics, Chemistry and Biology). It follows the same pattern and syllabus as the University of Zagreb School of Medicine exam. Successful applicants also take a psychomotor test.
  • English: TOEFL 80/120, IELTS 6.5 or an equivalent result (FCE or B2), unless your previous education was in English.

Working in Ireland afterwards

A dental degree from an EU member state that is listed in the EU Professional Qualifications Directive (2005/36/EC, as amended) can be recognised automatically by the Dental Council of Ireland. To get this, you provide a certificate from your home country’s competent authority confirming the degree meets the Directive’s minimum training conditions, plus proof of English-language proficiency. EU dental degrees that do not qualify for automatic recognition may instead be assessed under the Directive.
