About the course

A 7-semester (210 ECTS) engineering degree in computing taught in English, covering electrical and digital engineering, computer architecture, networks, operating systems, programming in C, C++ and Java, databases, AI and IT security, with an 8-week internship and a thesis. Students choose a Software Engineering or Infocommunication specialisation.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • Hungary has no Leaving Cert points conversion. BME asks for a secondary school-leaving certificate and, for this programme, states a minimum overall result of 70 per cent, then assesses applicants through its own entrance test. BME publishes nothing on how Leaving Cert grades (H1-H8, O1-O8) map to that 70 per cent, so confirm with BME admissions.
  • Entrance test: online e-admission exam in Mathematics and Physics plus an asynchronous (recorded) oral interview. Applicants with weak maths, physics or English may be directed to a one-year Preparatory Course first.
  • English: B2 needed, e.g. IELTS 5.5, TOEFL iBT 72, Cambridge B2 First 160 or Duolingo 100; BME also accepts a medium-of-instruction certificate or its own internal English test with prior approval. Ask BME whether a school letter confirming English-medium schooling is enough.

How to apply

  1. Prepare documentsCV and motivation letter, passport copy, Leaving Cert results (school certificate), English proof and a receipt for the 150 euro application fee.
  2. Apply on e-admissionSubmit through BME e-admission during the application window (1 April to 15 May in 2026; check 2027 dates).
  3. Sit the entrance testComplete the online maths and physics test and the recorded oral interview; weaker applicants may be offered the Preparatory Course instead.
  4. Accept and enrolAccept the offer, pay the first semester fee and register in Budapest; you must be 18 by enrolment.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: For September 2026 entry, applications ran from 1 April to 15 May 2026 through BME e-admission. BME has not yet published 2027 dates; expect a similar April to mid-May window and confirm when BME announces it..

Costs

  • EU/EEA students pay 2,250 euro per semester (4,500 euro a year) in 2026/27; non-EU students pay 3,200 euro per semester. BME says fees may vary from year to year and can change without notice. There is also a 150 euro application fee.
This is a 3.5-year course with its own online maths and physics test and interview, not a points-based offer, and the application window is short (April to mid-May).
