About the course

A six-semester (180 ECTS) degree covering experimental and theoretical physics, quantum mechanics, electrodynamics, mathematics and programming, ending with a thesis. Students choose a Physicist specialisation (theory and programming) or an Applied Physics specialisation (applications, laboratory work and informatics).

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • Hungary has no Leaving Cert points conversion for English-taught degrees. BME asks for an eligible completed secondary school qualification, pre-screens applicants on their school-leaving results, then relies on its own test and interview. BME publishes nothing specific on the Leaving Certificate, so confirm with BME admissions that it is accepted.
  • Admission has four stages: pre-screening of school results with a motivation letter and recommendation letters, an online admission test in mathematics and physics, an online interview in English on preparedness, communication, motivation and attitude, then a decision. Strong Higher Level Maths and Physics are the best preparation. BSc applicants found weak in the basic subjects are directed to BME’s one-year Preparatory Course, which is available for this programme.
  • English at B2 level is required, for example IELTS 5.5, TOEFL iBT 72, Cambridge B2 First 160 or Duolingo 100. BME also accepts a medium-of-instruction certificate, so ask your school for one and check with admissions that it covers your case.

How to apply

  1. Check the programme and feesRead the BME Physics BSc page and the 2026/27 fee list; confirm the 2027 application window when BME publishes it.
  2. Prepare documentsGather Leaving Cert results (or school results), a motivation letter, recommendation letters, CV, passport copy and proof of English.
  3. Apply and payApply through the BME e-admission portal during the spring window (1 April to 15 May in 2026) and upload proof of the 150 euro application fee.
  4. Test and interviewSit the online maths and physics admission test; if you pass, attend an online interview in English before a final decision.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: For September 2026 entry the fee-paying application period was 1 April to 15 May 2026. Dates for September 2027 entry had not been published at the time of checking; expect a similar spring window and confirm on the BME admission pages..

Costs

  • EU students pay 2,250 euro per semester (4,500 euro a year) in 2026/27; non-EU students pay 3,200 euro per semester. BME says fees may vary from year to year. There is also a non-refundable 150 euro application fee, paid by bank transfer before you apply.
Places are decided by BME’s own online maths and physics test and an interview, not by CAO-style points, so prepare for the test. You must also be 18 by the time you enrol.
