About the course

A 210-ECTS, seven-semester degree taught in English. It starts with maths and physics, then moves on to engineering courses. Students specialise in automotives, vehicle mechatronics, rail vehicles, aircraft, vessels or manufacturing, and finish with a thesis.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • Hungary has no Leaving Cert points conversion for English-taught degrees. BME asks for an eligible secondary school-leaving certificate, which the Leaving Certificate normally meets. It then uses its own admission test instead of your grades. BME publishes nothing specific on the Leaving Cert, so confirm with BME admissions that yours is accepted.
  • You must pass BME’s online e-admission exam or placement test. BSc applicants with weak basic skills (Mathematics, Physics or Chemistry, and English) are sent to a one-year Preparatory Course first. Strong Higher Level Maths and Physics are good preparation.
  • English at B2 level is required, for example IELTS 5.5, TOEFL iBT 72, Cambridge B2 First 160 or Duolingo 100. BME also accepts a Medium of Instruction Certificate. Ask admissions whether your Irish school can issue one. You must be 18 by the time you enrol.

How to apply

  1. Check dates and documentsFrom early 2027, check BME’s admission pages for the 2027 application window. In 2026 it ran from 1 April to 15 May. Get your passport, school results and proof of English ready.
  2. Apply on e-admissionCreate an account on e-admission.bme.hu, upload your documents and pay the €150 application fee, which is not refunded.
  3. Sit the online admission testTake the e-admission exam or placement test, using the portal’s sample tests to practise. If your basic skills are weak, you may be sent to the one-year Preparatory Course first.
  4. Accept and enrolIf you get an offer, accept it, pay the first semester’s fee (about €3,200) and enrol in Budapest for a September start. You must be 18 by enrolment.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: For September 2026 entry, fee-paying applicants applied through BME e-admission between 1 April and 15 May 2026. The 2027 dates are not published yet. Expect a similar window, but confirm when BME publishes it..

Costs

  • BME charges a base fee of €1,100 plus €70 per credit each semester. For a normal 30-credit semester that is €3,200, or about €6,400 a year. EU and non-EU students pay the same rate on this programme. You also pay a €150 application fee, which is not refunded. Fees can change from year to year.
Fees are charged per credit (a €1,100 base fee plus €70 per credit each semester), and EU students pay the same rate as non-EU students, so budget about €6,400 a year. You apply directly to BME and sit its own online test. CAO points do not apply.
