About the course

A seven-semester (210 ECTS) degree covering crop and animal production, soil science, water and environmental management, agricultural machinery, and farm economics. It ends with a mandatory 12-week professional internship in the final semester.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • The university asks for a completed high school certificate plus a pass in its entrance exams, and does not publish a Leaving Cert grade or points conversion. Hungary has no national Leaving Cert conversion for English-taught programmes, so confirm with admissions that your Leaving Cert is accepted. Final-year students send transcripts for the last 2-3 years and predicted grades.
  • Online entrance exams in Mathematics plus either Chemistry or Biology, with an oral part and interview. Students who do not do well enough can be offered a Foundation programme first.
  • English: B2 is required (IELTS 5.5 or TOEFL PBT 513). The university says a certificate is not strictly required, because your English is assessed at the interview. Native speakers and students taught through English can be exempt from the test.

How to apply

  1. Prepare documentsGather your passport, CV, medical certificate, school transcripts for the last 2-3 years, and predicted grades.
  2. Apply online and paySubmit through the university’s online application system and pay the non-refundable USD 150 application fee. Apply by 15 May 2027 to be safe; in the 2026 cycle the deadline was 15 June.
  3. Sit the online examsPay the USD 350 entrance fee and take the online written and oral exams in Mathematics plus Chemistry or Biology. Sample tests are on the university website.
  4. Accept and enrolIf you get an offer, pay the tuition as instructed, send your final Leaving Cert results, and start in Debrecen in September.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: There is one intake a year, in September. The self-financed deadline for the 2026 cycle was 15 June 2026. The university’s admissions page also says the September 2027 application period will open later in 2026, with a final deadline of 15 May 2027. That notice sits beside a Medicine and Dentistry announcement, so confirm the 2027 date with admissions and aim to apply by 15 May 2027. Scholarship routes have different deadlines..

Costs

  • Tuition is USD 7,000 a year for students admitted in 2026/27, roughly €6,000 depending on the exchange rate. The university publishes one fee for all international self-funded students and shows no separate EU rate. You also pay a USD 150 application fee and a USD 350 entrance procedure fee, which covers the exams and interview. Both are non-refundable and are paid by bank transfer. Health insurance and the student card are included in the tuition fee.
Admission depends on passing the university’s own online exams in Maths and Chemistry or Biology, not on CAO points. Fees are in US dollars, about USD 7,000 a year plus USD 500 in non-refundable application and exam fees.
