About the course

This 7-semester (210 ECTS) course covers chemistry and chemical engineering. Main subjects include organic and physical chemistry, unit operations, process control, chemical technology and computer modelling. There are hands-on lab courses and a compulsory 6-week placement with a company or research institute.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • The University of Debrecen asks for a secondary-school leaving certificate. It publishes no specific rule for the Irish Leaving Certificate and no grade or points conversion. Hungary has no national Leaving Cert conversion for English-taught courses, so your result in the university’s own entrance exam is what matters. You send transcripts for your last 2-3 years plus predicted grades if you are still at school. Confirm with admissions that the Leaving Cert is accepted.
  • Online entrance exams in Mathematics and Chemistry, plus a written and oral (interview) stage. Applicants whose exam results or school grades are not strong enough may be offered the university’s Foundation Year first.
  • English: B2 level is required (for example IELTS 5.5 or TOEFL 513 paper-based). The course page says a certificate is not strictly required because your English is tested at the interview. The general admissions page lets you skip the certificate if you are a native speaker or were educated in English.

How to apply

  1. Check the 2027 deadlineWatch the Application and admission page for the September 2027 deadline. In 2026 it was 15 June, but one notice says 15 May 2027 for some programmes.
  2. Apply onlineApply on the Stuart platform. Upload the form, your school certificate, transcripts and predicted grades, your passport, a CV, a medical certificate and the receipt for the USD 150 application fee.
  3. Sit the entrance examsPay the USD 350 entrance fee. Then take the online Mathematics and Chemistry tests and the interview, which also checks your English.
  4. Accept and payIf you get an offer, pay the tuition fee in US dollars by bank transfer and bring your original documents to registration in September.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: The deadline for the 2026 cycle was 15 June 2026. The course starts in September only. At the time of checking, the university had not published the non-medical deadline for September 2027. One notice about Medicine and Dentistry gives 15 May 2027 as the final deadline for the September 2027 intake, so do not assume 15 June for 2027. Check the Application and admission page when the 2027 application period opens..

Costs

  • The university charges USD 7,000 a year in US dollars. It does not publish a lower EU rate or a price in euro. The fee includes health insurance and the student card. You also pay a one-off application fee of USD 150 and an entrance procedure fee of USD 350, which covers the exam and interview. Neither fee is refundable, and both are paid by bank transfer. These are the fees for students admitted in 2026/27.
This is a paid course with fees in US dollars (USD 7,000 a year), with no lower EU rate. Admission depends on the university’s own online maths and chemistry exams, not on Leaving Cert points.
