A three-year, 180 ECTS degree covering general, inorganic, organic, analytical and physical chemistry alongside mathematics, physics, informatics, biology and environmental science, with laboratory work throughout. It includes a mandatory six-week internship at a company or research institute.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • There is no Leaving Cert points or grade conversion: the University of Debrecen asks for a completed secondary school certificate and then decides admission through its own entrance exam. The Leaving Certificate should meet the school-leaving requirement, but confirm with admissions how your results should be submitted.
  • Online written and oral entrance exams in Chemistry and Mathematics, plus an interview, so Higher Level Chemistry and Maths are strong preparation.
  • English at B2 level: TOEFL 513 (paper-based) or IELTS 5.5, or your English can be assessed at the entrance interview. Confirm with admissions whether Leaving Cert English is accepted as proof.

How to apply

  1. Create an account and applyApply on the University of Debrecen online application portal (stuart.edu.unideb.hu) and pay the 150 USD application fee.
  2. Upload documentsUpload your secondary school certificate (Leaving Cert results) and any English test result; pay the 350 USD entrance procedure fee.
  3. Sit the online entrance examTake the online written and oral exams in Chemistry and Mathematics and the interview, which also checks your English.
  4. Meet the 15 June deadlineComplete your application before 15 June for September entry, then check your Letter of Acceptance for the fee and payment plan.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: The published deadline for self-financed applicants is 15 June, for a September start (one intake a year). This is the date shown in the university’s 2026 guide; confirm the 2027 date when the portal opens..

Costs

  • Tuition is 6,500 US dollars a year, charged in USD (the university lists no separate EU rate). On top of this there is a one-off, non-refundable application fee of 150 USD and a non-refundable entrance procedure fee of 350 USD. Your exact fee and payment plan are confirmed in your Letter of Acceptance.
Admission is decided by an online Chemistry and Maths entrance exam and interview, not by Leaving Cert points. Fees are charged in US dollars, so the euro cost will change with the exchange rate.
