About the course

This course combines informatics and engineering. It covers computer architectures, networks, embedded systems, software development and control technologies, with a strong hands-on focus. It includes a compulsory 8-week internship, either on university research projects or at a company.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • The University of Debrecen asks for a secondary school leaving certificate, translated into English, plus transcripts or predicted grades. It publishes nothing specific on the Irish Leaving Certificate and uses no points or H-grade conversion. Your Leaving Cert should meet the basic requirement, but confirm with admissions. Note that the gap since you left school cannot be more than 4 years.
  • You sit written and oral entrance exams in Mathematics and Physics. Students whose exam results or grades are too weak may be offered the university’s Foundation Programme instead.
  • English: B2 level (for example IELTS 5.5 or TOEFL 513 paper-based). The university also checks your English at the entrance interview. It does not say whether Leaving Cert English is accepted, so ask admissions.

How to apply

  1. Check the detailsRead the programme page and the 2026/27 fee table. Note that fees are charged in US dollars.
  2. Apply onlineCreate an account on the university’s application portal. Upload your Leaving Cert results or predicted grades, transcripts, passport, CV, medical certificate and proof of English, and pay the 150 US dollar application fee.
  3. Sit the entrance examsPay the 350 US dollar entrance fee, then take the online written and oral exams in Mathematics and Physics, plus the interview. Sample tests are on the university site.
  4. Meet the deadlineApply by mid-June. The 2026 deadline was 15 June. Confirm the 2027 date and pay your first tuition fees when you receive an offer.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: For September 2026 entry, the deadline for self-financed applicants was 15 June 2026. The 2027 deadline is not yet published. Expect a similar mid-June date, but check. The online entrance exams in Mathematics and Physics are taken after you apply..

Costs

  • The university’s 2026/27 fee table lists 7,500 US dollars a year, charged in US dollars, with no separate EU rate. (The programme page still shows 7,000 US dollars, so confirm the figure.) You also pay a one-off application fee of 150 US dollars and an entrance procedure fee of 350 US dollars for the exam and interview. Neither is refundable.
This is a fee-paying programme with no lower EU rate. Tuition is charged in US dollars, so the cost in euro will change with the exchange rate. You must pass the university’s own Maths and Physics exams, whatever your Leaving Cert points.
