About the course

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • The University of Debrecen asks for a high school (school-leaving) certificate and does not publish a Leaving Cert grade or points conversion. Admission depends on its own entrance exams. Final-year students apply with their school reports from the last 2-3 years and predicted grades, then send the Leaving Cert results when they receive them. Confirm with admissions that your Leaving Cert is accepted.
  • You must pass online entrance exams in Mathematics and Physics, followed by an online interview. A strong Higher Level Maths background will help, and you should prepare Physics even if you did not take it for the Leaving Cert. Weaker applicants may be offered the university’s Foundation Programme instead.
  • English: B2 is required (IELTS 5.5 or TOEFL paper-based 513). Native speakers, and applicants who completed secondary school in English with a medium-of-instruction certificate, can be exempted. Your English is also assessed at the interview.

How to apply

  1. Prepare documentsGather your passport, CV, school reports from the last 2-3 years with predicted grades, a medical certificate (using the university’s template) and, if needed, proof of English.
  2. Apply online and payApply on the university’s online platform (Stuart) before 15 June and pay the non-refundable USD 150 application fee by bank transfer.
  3. Sit the entrance examPay the USD 350 entrance procedure fee, then sit the online Mathematics and Physics exams and the interview. Sample tests are on the university’s exam topics page.
  4. Accept and enrolCheck your Letter of Acceptance for the fee and payment plan. Send your Leaving Cert results as soon as they arrive, and bring the original documents to registration in September.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: September intake only. The programme page gives 15 June as the application deadline. The admissions page currently shows 15 June 2026 for September 2026 entry, so expect 15 June 2027 for September 2027 entry, but confirm once the 2027 cycle is published. Online entrance exams and interviews follow after you apply..

Costs

  • The university charges USD 7,500 a year (roughly €6,400; the exact euro amount depends on the exchange rate). It publishes one fee for all international self-funded students and does not list a lower EU rate. You also pay a one-off application fee of USD 150 and an entrance procedure fee of USD 350, which covers the exam and interview. Both are non-refundable and are paid by bank transfer. Your Letter of Acceptance confirms your final fee and payment plan.
There is no CAO-style points route. Entry depends on online Maths and Physics exams, and fees are charged in US dollars, so the euro cost changes with the exchange rate.
