About the course

A 7-semester (210 ECTS) engineering degree that trains students to design, manufacture and repair road, rail, marine and aircraft vehicles and mobile machinery. Specialisations are Vehicle Manufacturing, Automotive Vehicle Engineering and Aircraft Engineering. It includes a compulsory 6-week professional placement.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • Hungary has no national points conversion for the Leaving Certificate on English-taught courses. Debrecen asks for a secondary school-leaving certificate plus transcripts from your last 2-3 years of school, in English or translated. It publishes no Leaving Cert grade (H1-H8/O1-O8) minimums. Your place depends on its own entrance exam, so confirm with admissions that your Leaving Cert is accepted.
  • You must pass the university’s entrance exam in Mathematics and Physics, with an interview. It can be taken online (usually by Zoom) if you cannot travel to Hungary or an exam centre abroad. Strong Higher Level Maths and Physics are the best preparation.
  • English at B2 level is required (for example IELTS 5.5 or TOEFL paper-based 513). A certificate is not strictly required, because your English is assessed at the entrance interview.

How to apply

  1. Prepare documentsGather your passport, CV, medical certificate, school transcripts from your last 2-3 years and your Leaving Certificate (or school results to date), all in English.
  2. Apply onlineApply through the university’s Stuart portal and pay the non-refundable USD 150 application fee. The deadline for September entry is 15 June (15 June 2026 is the published date; check the date for 2027).
  3. Sit the entrance examPay the USD 350 entrance fee and take the written and oral exam in Maths and Physics plus the interview. You can take it online by Zoom if you cannot travel.
  4. Accept and payCheck the tuition fee and payment plan in your Letter of Acceptance. As an EU student without a visa you can pay one semester at a time. Arrive in Debrecen for the September start.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: Self-financed applications for September entry close on 15 June. The 15 June 2026 deadline has been published. The 2027 date is not yet published but is expected to follow the same pattern. The programme starts in September only. Applicants seeking a scholarship face different deadlines and application systems..

Costs

  • The university lists tuition of USD 7,000 a year for 2026/27, charged in US dollars, with no separate EU rate (roughly €6,000, depending on the exchange rate). Health insurance and the student card are included. On top of this you pay a one-off, non-refundable application fee of USD 150 and an entrance procedure fee of USD 350, which covers the exam and interview. Students who do not need a visa, such as Irish citizens, can pay in two instalments, one per semester.
Places are decided by Debrecen’s own Maths and Physics entrance exam, not CAO-style points, and the USD 7,000 fee is the same for EU and non-EU students. Also note the university’s limit on gaps in study: no more than 4 years since leaving school for bachelor applicants.
