About the course

A three-year (6 semesters, 180 ECTS), English-taught bachelor’s degree in animation at METU, a private university in Budapest.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • You need a completed secondary school-leaving qualification with school results above 50%, both across the years and in your final exams. The Leaving Certificate normally meets this, but METU does not publish a specific Leaving Cert rule and does not use CAO points, so confirm with admission@metropolitan.hu. Documents must be in English or Hungarian.
  • Portfolio: the work can include animated films, spots and intros, short animation tests and experiments, character or layout design, concept art, storyboards, comic strips or any other visual art. Add a description of each piece and say what you did on any group work. Include a motivation letter, a CV and a statement that the work is your own, and share everything through a public Google Drive link.
  • Everyone does an online admission interview.
  • English: you need an intermediate level. METU accepts FCE, CAE, IELTS 5.5+ or TOEFL 69+. Ask whether you can use Leaving Cert English instead.

Costs

  • EU/EEA students pay 3,990 euro per semester in 2026/27 (7,980 euro a year); non-EU students pay 4,990 euro per semester. Two semesters’ fees are paid up front. The university says fees may rise each year in line with the inflation rate published by the Hungarian National Bank. You also pay a non-refundable application fee of 150 euro and a registration fee of 100 euro. This is a private, self-funded place.
METU is a private university, so you pay full tuition (about 8,000 euro a year for EU students) and there are no CAO-style points. You get in with a portfolio and an online interview. The 2027 dates are not out yet.
