About the course

A three-year, 180-ECTS BA taught in English at METU’s Budapest campus. It covers communication theory, media studies, marketing, psychology, social studies and creative communication, with social and media projects. From the third semester students take a specialisation in International Communication or Integrated Media. A specialisation runs only if at least 15 students choose it.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • METU asks for a completed secondary school qualification and says it accepts documents in English, so the Leaving Certificate should count as your school-leaving qualification. Hungary has no national points or grade conversion for English-taught courses. The course page asks for a school average above 50%, but METU does not say how it converts H1-H8 or O1-O8 grades, so ask admissions how your results will be judged.
  • Every applicant must do an online admission interview. METU says it may also set tests, and its application details document covers language and maths requirements, so ask admissions whether a maths test applies to this course.
  • English: you need intermediate English. METU lists FCE, CAE, IELTS 5.5+ or TOEFL 69+, but your English is also judged at the interview, and the course page says a certificate is not required. METU does not say whether Leaving Certificate English counts as proof. Applicants whose English is too weak may be offered a one- or two-semester English preparatory programme.

How to apply

  1. Choose your intakePick spring (starts February 2027; final EU deadline 5 Jan 2027, early bird 30 Sept 2026) or autumn (starts September 2027; dates not yet published). Check the course page on apply.metropolitan.hu.
  2. Register and upload documentsCreate an account on METU’s online application portal. Upload your school results (Leaving Certificate results or predicted grades) and any English certificate, then pay the non-refundable fees.
  3. Online interviewDo the compulsory online admission interview, where your English and motivation are assessed. Ask admissions in advance whether any other test applies.
  4. Accept and payAfter a provisional offer, pay the deposit, tuition and enrolment fees; METU requires two semesters’ tuition upfront. Bring your original documents to registration in Budapest.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: This course takes students in both autumn and spring. For the spring intake starting February 2027, the early-bird deadline (10% discount) is 30 Sept 2026 and the final deadline for EU applicants is 5 Jan 2027, 23:59 Central European Time. The university has not yet published deadlines for the September 2027 intake; the autumn 2026/27 round is already closed. Check the application portal for the 2027/28 autumn dates..

Costs

  • EU/EEA students pay EUR 3,200 per semester (EUR 6,400 a year) in 2026/27; the non-EU rate is EUR 3,900 per semester. The university says fees may rise each year in line with Hungarian inflation, and two semesters are paid upfront. The course page on the application portal shows EUR 3,900, which matches the non-EU rate, so check which rate applies to you. One-off costs listed on the portal are a EUR 150 application fee and a EUR 100 registration fee (both non-refundable), plus EUR 150 health insurance for applicants under 37. The main admissions page mentions only a EUR 100 registration fee, so confirm the total with admissions. Applying by the early-bird deadline earns a 10% discount.
METU is a private university, and fees are paid per semester (EU EUR 3,200 in 2026/27, paid two semesters at a time). Unlike the CAO, you apply directly to the university, you must do an interview, and you can start in February as well as September.
