About the course

A three-year (6 semesters, 180 ECTS), English-taught bachelor’s degree in graphic design at METU, a private university in Budapest. Students can specialise in graphic design or packaging design.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • You need a completed secondary school-leaving qualification. METU’s art programme pages also ask for school results above 50%. The Leaving Certificate normally meets this, but METU does not publish a specific Leaving Cert rule and does not use CAO points, so confirm with admission@metropolitan.hu. Documents must be in English or Hungarian.
  • Portfolio: send your own art or graphic design work, made by hand or on a computer. This can include illustrations, layouts, logos, comics, posters, packaging, brand identities, web designs, drawings, sketches, paintings or prints. Scan handmade pieces into one PDF, then add a motivation letter, a CV and a statement that the work is all your own. Share it all through a public Google Drive link.
  • Everyone does an online admission interview, which also tests your English.
  • English: you need an intermediate level. METU accepts FCE, CAE, IELTS 5.5+ or TOEFL 69+. Ask whether you can use Leaving Cert English instead.

Costs

  • EU students pay 3,990 euro per semester in 2026/27 (7,980 euro a year); non-EU students pay 4,990 euro per semester. Two semesters’ fees are paid up front. The university says fees may rise each year in line with the inflation rate published by the Hungarian National Bank. You also pay a non-refundable application fee of 150 euro and a registration fee of 100 euro. This is a private, self-funded place.
METU is a private university, so you pay full tuition (about 8,000 euro a year for EU students) and there are no CAO-style points. You get in with a portfolio and an online interview. The 2027 dates are not out yet.
