About the course

An English-taught, on-campus bachelor’s in materials engineering from the University of Miskolc’s Faculty of Materials and Chemical Engineering. It runs for 7 semesters (210 ECTS) and offers specialisations in metal technologies and in ceramics and polymer engineering. About 40% of teaching is lectures and 60% is seminars and practical work.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • Hungary asks for a completed upper-secondary school-leaving qualification, and the programme page asks for a ‘High School diploma, good English skills’. The Leaving Certificate normally meets this, but each university decides. There is no Leaving Cert points or grade conversion. The University of Miskolc publishes nothing specific on the Leaving Cert, so confirm with admissions (apply@uni-miskolc.hu).
  • Admission is by a short online oral exam that tests your motivation and English. The programme page lists no specific subjects, but a materials engineering degree assumes a good grounding in maths and science, so Higher Level Maths and Physics or Chemistry would help.
  • English: the programme page asks for IELTS 5.0 or equivalent, but the general application page asks for at least B2, so check which applies. The university also accepts an official letter confirming your schooling was in English. It does not say whether Leaving Cert English alone is enough, so check before applying.

How to apply

  1. Check the 2027 intakeLook at the university’s application procedure page from November 2026 for the 2027/28 opening date and deadline. Dormitory places ran out for 2026/27, so apply early.
  2. Prepare documentsYou will need a Europass CV, a motivation letter (3,000 to 3,500 characters), certified copies of your school results with English translations, proof of English, a medical certificate on the university’s template and a passport or ID copy.
  3. Apply on DreamApplySubmit your application on apply.uni-miskolc.hu and pay the EUR 150 non-refundable application fee through Flywire.
  4. Sit the online oral examThis free, short interview tests your motivation and English. If you pass, you get a conditional offer. Then pay the tuition fee and arrange accommodation.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: For 2026/27 entry, applications opened on 1 November 2025 and are now closed. Term started in the first week of September 2026. The 2027/28 dates were not published when this was checked. If the cycle follows the same pattern, applications would open around November 2026, but confirm the dates on the university’s application procedure page..

Costs

  • The programme page lists tuition of EUR 3,000 per semester (EUR 6,000 a year). This is the 2026/27 figure, and the 2027/28 fee may change. The page does not mention a lower fee for EU students. There is also a non-refundable application fee of EUR 150, paid through DreamApply via Flywire. It covers processing, the entrance interview, registration and a shuttle from Budapest airport. The entrance exam itself is free. First-semester dormitory accommodation costs about EUR 850, but all dormitory places for 2026/27 are allocated.
This is a fee-paying, English-taught programme that you apply for directly through the university’s DreamApply portal, not through CAO or felvi.hu. Dormitory places for 2026/27 were fully allocated, so apply as soon as the 2027 cycle opens and plan your accommodation.
