About the course

A 7-semester English-taught bachelor’s that trains mechanical engineers to run equipment, apply technology and work on technical development. It offers specialisations in Machine Manufacturing Technology, Machine Design and Design of Machine Tools. Teaching is split roughly 50/50 between lectures and seminars or practicals.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • The University of Miskolc asks for a secondary school leaving certificate, and publishes no specific Leaving Certificate grade or points rule. In Hungary, each university decides whether to accept the Leaving Cert, and there is no national points conversion for English-taught degrees. Confirm with admissions (apply@uni-miskolc.hu) that your Leaving Cert is accepted.
  • You need secondary-school maths and physics. Leaving Cert Maths and Physics are the relevant subjects, but no minimum grade or level is published. Admission is decided by a free online oral interview. It tests your motivation and English and may include basic maths or technical questions.
  • English: you need at least B2 (the programme page says IELTS 6.0 or equivalent), or an official document confirming that your previous studies were taught in English. The university does not say whether Leaving Cert English counts, so ask admissions before you apply.

How to apply

  1. Check the 2027 intakeWatch apply.uni-miskolc.hu for the 2027/28 dates. Last cycle opened on 1 November 2025.
  2. Apply on DreamApplyRegister, pay the EUR 150 fee via Flywire, and upload the following: a Europass CV, a 3,000-3,500 character motivation letter, your school results (translated if needed), English proof, a medical certificate on the university’s template, your passport or ID, and proof of payment. The course page also asks for two references.
  3. Online oral interviewA free online interview covering motivation, English and possibly basic maths or technical questions. A Conditional Letter of Admission follows within about a week if you pass.
  4. Pay and enrolPay the first semester’s tuition (EUR 3,000) to receive the Final Letter of Acceptance. Arrange your own accommodation, since the university says its dormitories are fully allocated. Bring your original documents when you enrol in early September.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: For the 2026/27 autumn intake, applications opened on 1 November 2025 and are now closed. The university has not yet published the 2027/28 dates. If it follows the same pattern, applications would open around November 2026 for a September 2027 start. The only deadline the university published was 30 April 2026, and it applied only to applicants from certain non-EU countries because of visa processing times. Apply early and confirm the dates with apply@uni-miskolc.hu..

Costs

  • EUR 3,000 per semester (EUR 6,000 a year), as listed for the 2026/27 intake. The university’s pages show one self-financed fee and do not list a separate EU rate. There is also a EUR 150 application fee paid via Flywire, which cannot be refunded. The first semester’s tuition is due after you receive the Conditional Letter of Admission, and tuition is generally non-refundable. Payment is by bank transfer only.
This is a paid, self-funded programme (EUR 3,000 per semester) that runs for 3.5 years, not 3. You apply directly to the university through DreamApply, not through a central system, and should apply early because intakes have closed well before the summer.
