About the course

A seven-semester (210 ECTS), full-time English-taught engineering degree on the design, manufacture, operation and repair of road vehicles, including structures, engines, transmissions, testing and quality control. It leads to the qualification of Vehicle Engineer (BSc).

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • The university does not publish anything specific about the Irish Leaving Certificate. Like other Hungarian universities, it asks for a completed secondary school-leaving certificate and your results, and it tests you itself instead of converting CAO points. Check with admission@nje.hu that it will accept the Leaving Cert.
  • Maths: you must show enough mathematics in an online test during admission, set at the level of second-level school maths. An online interview about your motivation and your English is also part of the process.
  • English: you need B2 level or higher, and the university checks this through its own online test and interview. It does not list IELTS or TOEFL scores, and it does not say whether Leaving Cert English counts on its own.

How to apply

  1. Prepare documentsLeaving Cert certificate and results, school transcript, CV, a motivation letter in English (your background, why this course and why this university) and a passport valid for at least six months.
  2. Apply on DreamApplyRegister on the university’s DreamApply portal, upload your documents and pay the EUR 200 non-refundable application fee. The 2027/28 dates are not yet published, so apply early.
  3. Online interview and testsIf invited, take the online interview and the online English and maths tests.
  4. Acceptance and paymentYou receive a conditional acceptance letter. You then pay the first-year tuition (and the dormitory fee if you want a room) to get final acceptance before the course starts in September. As an EU citizen you do not need the D-type visa that non-EU students need.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: No fixed deadline for 2027 entry is published. The 2026/27 application period (course starting 7 September 2026) is now shown as closed on the university’s application portal. Applications go through DreamApply and appear to be processed as they arrive, so apply early and email admission@nje.hu for the 2027/28 dates..

Costs

  • EUR 3,000 per semester (EUR 6,000 a year). The university charges the same fee to all international students, EU and non-EU. There is also a one-off, non-refundable application fee of EUR 200. Optional dormitory places cost extra (the university quotes this as EUR 750 or EUR 1,000 per semester on different pages). Health insurance is about EUR 180, paid after arrival. The refund rules are set out in the conditional acceptance letter.
This is a fee-paying English-taught course at EUR 3,000 per semester, and it runs for 3.5 years, not the 4 years common in Ireland. Entry is decided by the university’s own online maths and English tests and interview, not by CAO points.
