About the course

A seven-semester (210 ECTS) mechatronics engineering degree taught in English in Budapest. Students choose a specialisation in Robotics or Intelligent Control Systems.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • Hungary asks for a completed upper-secondary school-leaving qualification, and the Leaving Certificate normally meets this. There is no national Leaving Cert points or grade conversion for English-taught programmes. Óbuda University checks your documents itself and publishes no specific Leaving Cert rule (no Higher Level or H-grade minimums were found), so confirm with admission@uni-obuda.hu.
  • After the document check, applicants may be invited to an entrance exam, and must pass it to get conditional acceptance. Expect maths and science to be tested for an engineering degree. You must be at least 18 by the end of September in your year of entry.
  • English: the programme is taught in English. We could not load the university’s page on accepted English certificates, so ask admissions whether Leaving Cert English is accepted as proof. Separately, Hungarian rules require a B2-level foreign-language certificate before the degree can be awarded, so check how this applies to you.

How to apply

  1. Check the 2027/28 callLook at Óbuda University’s Application Deadlines page for the 2027/28 September intake (in the 2025/26 cycle, applications opened in mid-September of the year before entry).
  2. Register and apply onlineCreate an account in the university’s International Mobility and Registration System, upload your documents and pay the non-refundable EUR 150 application fee.
  3. Document check and entrance examThe university reviews your documents and may invite you to an entrance exam. You need to pass it to get conditional acceptance.
  4. Pay tuition and upload resultsAfter conditional acceptance, pay the first semester’s tuition to get your final admission letter. Upload your Leaving Certificate by 1 August.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: The 2027/28 deadline had not been confirmed when we checked. In the 2025/26 cycle, applications for self-financing students ran from 16 September 2024 to 3 July 2025, and the published deadline for the September intake was 15 June 2025. Your school-leaving certificate must be uploaded to the application system by 1 August in the year you apply. That means Leaving Cert results have to be uploaded as soon as they come out. Check the university’s Application Deadlines page for the 2027 dates..

Costs

  • EUR 2,000 per semester for EU/EEA students (EUR 4,000 a year); non-EEA students pay EUR 2,900 per semester. On top of this there is a non-refundable EUR 150 application fee, paid separately when you apply. Tuition is paid per semester, and you pay it after conditional acceptance to get final admission. If you ask for a refund before enrolling, 15% is kept. The fee page does not say which academic year the rates are for, so check them for 2027/28.
You apply directly to Óbuda University, not through CAO or felvi.hu. Your final admission depends on paying the first semester’s tuition and uploading your Leaving Cert results by 1 August, so plan around the results date.

Checked against the official Óbuda University website in September 2026 (2027 entry). The deadline and application-window details come from the 2025/26 cycle, and the fee page gives no academic year, so confirm both for 2027 entry. Always confirm details with the university before applying.
