About the course

A 7-semester degree taught in English at the engineering faculty in Pécs. It covers design studios, building construction and materials, strength analysis, architectural history, digital design, energy systems, professional practice, urban planning and ecodesign.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • Hungary asks for a completed upper-secondary qualification, and the University of Pécs does not publish how it treats the Leaving Certificate. Your school results are scored as the ‘GPA’ part of the assessment, but the university does not say how H1-H8 or O1-O8 grades convert. Confirm this with admissions.
  • Admission is on points out of 100, and you need at least 60, with some points in every main part. The parts are GPA (up to 30), motivation letter (up to 15), a portfolio showing creative ability and commitment to architecture (up to 15) and an online interview in English (up to 40). A C1 English certificate or reference letters can each add 5 bonus points. A GP medical certificate is also required.
  • English: the university’s language rules exempt applicants who finished secondary school in English in Ireland from an English test certificate. However, the engineering faculty may still test your English through an online test, an interview or both.

How to apply

Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: Apply by 30 June 2027 for a 1 September 2027 start. Entry is in autumn only. The university assesses your application once the application fee is paid, then invites you to an online (Skype) interview. Apply early so there is time for the interview, the tuition payment and travel plans..

Costs

  • The university lists tuition of USD 4,000 per semester (USD 8,000 a year). That is roughly €6,800 a year, but the euro cost depends on the exchange rate. The programme page gives one fee for international students and no separate EU rate. There is also a USD 150 application fee. The programme page does not say whether it can be refunded, so check the university’s admission rules. You pay tuition after conditional acceptance, before the final Letter of Admission is issued.
This is a 3.5-year architectural engineering bachelor’s. If you want to become a registered architect, check with the university whether a longer architecture programme suits you better. Fees are set in US dollars, so the cost in euro changes with the exchange rate.
