About the course

A 5-year (10-semester) D.M.D. programme taught in English at the University of Pécs Medical School. It moves through a basic science module in the first two years, then preclinical and clinical modules focused on assessing and managing patients.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • The university assesses the Irish Leaving Certificate individually and does not publish a fixed Irish requirement. Contact admissions to confirm. It asks for the best possible school grades in Biology and Chemistry (the programme page also mentions Physics) and says admission is based solely on how you do in the entrance exam.
  • Entrance exam: a 1 hour 40 minute multiple-choice test with Biology (20 questions), Chemistry (20), General English (40) and Medical English (20), plus a 20-30 minute interview with a professor. You get up to three attempts.
  • English: B2 (upper intermediate) level is required, but you do not need a language certificate.

Working in Ireland afterwards

A dental degree from an EU member state that is listed in the EU Professional Qualifications Directive (2005/36/EC, as amended) can be recognised automatically by the Dental Council of Ireland. To get this, you provide a certificate from your home country’s competent authority confirming the degree meets the Directive’s minimum training conditions, plus proof of English-language proficiency. EU dental degrees that do not qualify for automatic recognition may instead be assessed under the Directive.

Costs

  • The university charges USD 17,350 a year for 2027/28 (USD 9,300 for the first semester and USD 8,050 for the second). This includes the cost of dental materials and is roughly EUR 14,800 at current exchange rates. The exact euro amount will depend on the rate when you pay. The university publishes a single fee with no separate EU rate, so Irish students pay the full fee. One-off fees on top: USD 200 application fee, USD 250 entrance exam fee and USD 220 registration fee.
The Dental Council of Ireland can recognise an EU dental degree automatically under Directive 2005/36/EC if you provide a certificate from the Hungarian competent authority confirming the degree meets the Directive’s minimum training conditions, plus proof of English-language proficiency.
