About the course

A seven-semester engineering degree taught in English. It covers fluid mechanics, technical drawing, materials science, machining, electrical engineering, control systems, welding and flexible manufacturing systems.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • Hungary asks for a completed upper-secondary school-leaving qualification. The Leaving Certificate normally meets this, but each university decides. The University of Pécs publishes no Leaving Cert conversion. It scores your school grades as a percentage average (GPA), so confirm with the faculty how your H and O grades will be converted.
  • You are scored out of 100 points: GPA up to 40 (0 points below 65%, 10 points from 65%, 20 points from 75%, 40 points from 95%), a motivation letter up to 20, and the Skype interview up to 40. You need at least 60 points, not counting bonus points, and more than zero on each of the three parts. That means your grade average must be at least 65%. A generic or AI-written motivation letter scores zero. The page sets no specific maths or physics requirement.
  • The interview tests your English: communicative competence, vocabulary, accuracy and pronunciation. A C1 English certificate is not required but earns 5 bonus points, and reference letters earn another 5. The page does not say whether Leaving Cert English counts as proof, so check with admissions.

How to apply

  1. Check the programme pageRead the Mechanical Engineering BSc page on international.pte.hu. Prepare your school transcript and Leaving Cert results, a specific motivation letter written by you, and a GP certificate saying you have no infectious disease and are in good physical and mental health.
  2. Apply on apply.pte.huRegister, upload your documents, pay the USD 150 application fee and submit by 15 June 2027. Your application is only assessed once the fee arrives.
  3. Skype interviewTake the online interview. It is worth up to 40 of the 100 points and tests your English. You need at least 60 points in total.
  4. Pay tuition and enrolIf you succeed, you receive a Conditional Acceptance Letter. Pay the tuition to get the Letter of Admission, then arrive for the 1 September 2027 start.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: Apply online by 15 June 2027 for the September 2027 start. There is one intake a year, in the autumn, and classes start on 1 September 2027. Once your application fee is received, the university invites you to an online (Skype) interview..

Costs

  • The university quotes tuition as USD 3,400 per semester (USD 6,800 a year) for the 2027 intake. The euro figure is only an approximate conversion and will change with the exchange rate. No separate EU rate is listed. There is also a non-refundable application fee of USD 150. You pay tuition after passing the interview, and the Letter of Admission is issued once the university receives it.
You apply directly to the university, not through the CAO, and you need a grade average of at least 65% to be considered. Fees are quoted in US dollars, so the cost in euro will change with the exchange rate.
