About the course

A 5-year Doctor of Pharmacy programme taught in English. Years 1-2 cover the foundational sciences and years 3-5 cover pharmaceutical subjects. There is practical training after the second and third years (in Hungary or your home country) and a six-month placement in public and hospital pharmacies in the final year, followed by State Board exams.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • The university assesses the Irish Leaving Certificate individually and does not publish a fixed Irish requirement. Contact admissions to confirm. It asks for the best possible school grades in Biology and Chemistry (the programme page also mentions Physics) and says admission is based solely on how you do in the entrance exam.
  • Entrance exam: an oral interview only (no written test), lasting 20-30 minutes, with a university professor. It covers medicine-related topics and your motivation, and is held online or in person between March and mid-July 2027. Register at least two weeks in advance.
  • English: B2 (upper intermediate) level is required, but you do not need a language certificate.

Working in Ireland afterwards

A pharmacy degree from an EU/EEA member state that fully meets the Directive 2005/36/EC minimum training requirements (Article 44) can be recognised automatically. If you started your studies before the Directive’s reference date, you also need 3 consecutive years of professional experience within the last 5 years. Recognition is step one and PSI registration is step two: recognition alone does not let you practise, and you must also prove competence in English. EU law allows countries to limit EU-qualified pharmacists from running newly opened pharmacies, and we could not confirm on the PSI website whether Ireland does this. If you plan to be the supervising or superintendent pharmacist in a pharmacy, check with the PSI.

Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: Applications for September 2027 open on 1 November 2026 and close on 30 June 2027. Admission is continuous, so apply early. The entrance exam is an oral interview only (no written test), held online or in person between March and mid-July 2027..

Costs

  • The fee for 2027/28 is EUR 8,400 a year: EUR 4,400 for the first semester and EUR 4,000 for the second. The university publishes a single fee with no separate EU rate, so Irish students pay the full fee. PharmD applicants do not pay the application fee. You pay a USD 250 entrance exam fee and a USD 220 registration fee.
A pharmacy degree from an EU country that fully meets the Directive 2005/36/EC minimum training requirements can be recognised automatically, but you must then register separately with the PSI and prove competence in English. If you plan to be the supervising or superintendent pharmacist in a pharmacy, check with the PSI whether any restrictions on newly opened pharmacies apply.
