About the course

A six-semester (180 ECTS) computer science degree taught in English that trains students to build, run and maintain IT systems. It is a separate programme from the Computer Science Engineering BSc.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • Szeged asks for completed secondary education and names a ‘leaving certificate’ among the accepted school-leaving documents. It publishes no Leaving Cert grade or subject rules, and Hungary has no national points conversion, so confirm with admissions how your results will be assessed.
  • The entrance exam is an online interview (Skype). You also need a motivation letter and a recent medical certificate of good health. No separate maths requirement is published.
  • English: B2 level (TELC or ECL B2, TOEFL iBT 72, IELTS 5.5, Cambridge First Certificate grade B, or LanguageCert B2). Leaving Cert English is not listed, so check with admissions or take one of these tests.

How to apply

  1. Check your English proofGet an accepted B2 certificate, such as IELTS 5.5, or confirm with admissions whether Leaving Cert English is accepted.
  2. Apply on DreamApplyOnce the 2027/28 intake opens, apply at apply.u-szeged.hu for BSc Computer Science (not Computer Science Engineering). Upload your school results in English, English proof, motivation letter and health certificate, and pay the EUR 79 fee.
  3. Online interviewAfter your documents are checked, pay the EUR 100 exam fee and do the online entrance interview.
  4. Accept and pay tuitionIf you are admitted, pay the first semester’s fee (EUR 3,200) and arrange accommodation before studies start in early September 2027.
Deadline for Irish/EU applicants: Dates for September 2027 entry have not been published yet. The 2026/27 application period has closed, and studies started on 8 September 2026. The entrance interview is held online after your documents are checked..

Costs

  • EUR 3,200 per semester (EUR 6,400 a year). The university publishes one tuition fee for its international degree programmes and does not list a separate EU rate. One-off costs: a EUR 79 application fee per programme and a EUR 100 entrance exam fee, both non-refundable.
Szeged runs two similar degrees, Computer Science BSc and Computer Science Engineering BSc, so make sure you apply to the right one. The fee is EUR 6,400 a year, with no lower EU rate published.
