About the course

This is an eight-semester (240 ECTS) physiotherapy degree taught in English in Szeged, with practical classes in small groups. Semesters 1-4 cover the foundations, semesters 5-7 cover applied clinical knowledge, and the final semester is spent on supervised clinical placements.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • The university assesses the Irish Leaving Certificate individually and does not publish a fixed Irish requirement. Contact admissions to confirm. The general rules are: a secondary school leaving certificate, no failed subjects in your final school year, and age 18 by 31 December of the year you apply.
  • Entrance exam: if you apply only for Nursing or Physiotherapy, the exam assesses just your English plus a motivational conversation, held online via Coospace and Zoom. If you also apply for Medicine, Dentistry or Pharmacy, you must sit the full Biology, Chemistry and English exam. You can sit a maximum of two exams in one application period.
  • English requirement: B2 level or equivalent (for example IELTS, TOEFL or TOEIC).

Working in Ireland afterwards

Physiotherapy is not covered by automatic recognition. CORU checks each EU/EEA physiotherapy qualification against its Standards of Proficiency, and you need a letter of recognition before you can apply to join the Physiotherapists Register. If your training does not fully match, CORU can offer a compensation measure: a supervised adaptation period in Ireland or an aptitude test. EU/EEA-qualified physiotherapists with EU rights can also apply through the European Professional Card (EPC) route.

Places in each exam session are limited to about 60-70 candidates, so apply early and check the university’s exam calendar for the 2027 dates..

Costs

  • EUR 3,500 per semester (EUR 7,000 per year). EU students pay this too, because this is a fee-paying English-language programme. The university says the tuition fee includes general health insurance valid for Hungary, but not textbooks, accommodation or living costs. There is also a one-off, non-refundable application and entrance exam fee of EUR 300. It covers up to two exam attempts and applications to up to three health science programmes. These are the fees listed for 2026 entry, so check the 2027/28 fee when applications open.
