About the course

A three-year nursing degree taught in English, linked to the Sant’Andrea University Hospital in Rome. Sapienza runs its own admission test for this course.

Entry requirements for Irish students

  • The university assesses the Irish Leaving Certificate individually and does not publish a fixed Irish requirement for this course. Sapienza’s ‘Accepted qualifications by country’ list (2026/27) covers Ireland, so check it and contact admissions to confirm. Places are ranked on the admission test.
  • Admission test (2026): 60 multiple-choice questions in 100 minutes: biology 23, chemistry 15, physics and maths 13, logical reasoning 5 and reading 4. You score +1.5 for a correct answer, -0.4 for a wrong one and 0 for a blank. A total of zero or less is a fail, and a score below 10 means extra first-year catch-up requirements (OFA) in biology and chemistry.
  • English: the 2026/27 call does not mention a separate English certificate. The course is taught in English.

Working in Ireland afterwards

NMBI recognises EU/EEA nursing qualifications in a separate step before registration, and places each applicant in one of three groups. G1 is the EU automatic recognition pathway (Directive 2005/36/EC, Annex V), where NMBI only checks your paperwork. G2 is the general system, where NMBI also assesses your qualification, and you may have to complete a compensation measure. G3 covers qualifications outside the Directive. Under EU law, automatic recognition normally applies to general care (adult) nursing degrees listed in Annex V. Specialist qualifications such as psychiatric, children’s or intellectual disability nursing usually go through the general system, but NMBI does not publish a list. Its MyNMBI tool tells you which group you are in. English-language requirements also apply.

  • Sapienza does not list a separate, higher fee for its English-taught courses. Ireland is in Band C: EUR 1,500 a year in three instalments (fee page with 2025/26 payment deadlines; confirm the current amount). You also pay EUR 16 stamp duty and the Lazio regional tax. The admission test fee was EUR 35 in 2026, paid by card through Infostud (PagoPA).
